A few days ago, one of my friends and I went to a coffee tasting for the benefit of a foundation and we had a great time, it was a nice experience. The tasting was done in agreement with a brand of Venezuelan coffee called ‘Fruto Santo’ which is relatively new, it has been in operation since 2022 and is characterised by the fact that the coffee is grown at 1600 metres above sea level and that it is a coffee of origin because it always uses the same harvests.
We had four rounds with four types of roasting: French press, V60, cloth sleeve and filtered with liquor and between rounds we had small snacks to ‘forget’ the taste of the coffee, we had a bruschetta, a biscuit and some ice cream. Throughout the tasting, the barista told us the ratio of water and coffee, depending on the type of roast and the coffees we wanted to brew, he also told us the temperature of the water and whether the coffee should rest after brewing.
Regarding the brew with liquor I couldn't taste it because I have a medical condition and I gave it to my friend but he told me that I didn't miss anything, because it was very strong hahaha! I think it was strained with vodka. Of all the brews my favourite was the V60, I think the grooves of the brewer do bring out the nuances of the coffee and make it stand out.
I like these initiatives a lot, because they are different things that make us learn to implement them at home and enjoy a delicious coffee.
