You wanna hear a story? Too late, you're about to 🫶🏻
The first time I ever tasted coffee was back when I found out I was pregnant - early 2016. "Weird..." you might say. In fact, extremely bizarre. Especially knowing that I've worked at coffee shops for about 7 years up until that point, yet I have never felt the urge to have a cup. And, you know, because pregnant women are told to limit their caffeine intake.
But on that cold, winter day emotions were running high and, to my surprise, the only way out I could see for myself was a hot cup of decaf. I believe that was the day my love for coffee started. And it hasn't stopped ever since. It has guided me through some bad times, accompanied me through the good ones and, most importantly, it has opened my eyes to the wonders and magic of coffee shops.
They have become somewhat of a constant in my life. There's something so enchanting, so wonderful about a cute, tiny, quiet place where time seems to stop for a little while. As a mom (and as a human living in this crazy fast-paced world), I appreciate a good rest from time to time.
I've always been drawn to cafés - the ethereal blend of coffee aroma and fresh baked pastries; the smooth, mellow soundtrack in the background, awakening all our senses and captivating every inch of our souls; the occasional sweet whisper around the place somewhat reminding us we are here, now...Every time I find my brain rushing through the "what if's" of yesterday and the "maybe's" of tomorrow, I hide away in one of these java joints. Whether it be alone, or in the most delightful of companies...Whether it be in Montreal, or in fancy Paris.
No matter the weather, no matter the reason, no matter my mood - I know a visit to my favourite coffee place will free my soul and transform it into a mighty yet delicate phoenix, rising from the ashes, overcoming anything in its way. And honestly, I'm pretty sure I've survived life up to this point thanks to exactly these little visits.
I'll end this little adventure with a favourite coffee quote by Terry Pratchett: "Coffee is a way of stealing time that should by rights belong to your older self."
Thank you for reading all the way through and savouring each sip of this little caffeinated trip 🫶🏻
Much love and have a great weekend ahead!
