Time flies, and we’ve already entered the fifth month of the year—a blank page full of opportunities, yet also a new challenge: keeping track of all the cups of coffee I’ll drink. Labor Day was recently celebrated here in my country, and that’s why every morning prompts us to pause a little longer, to recognize the value of what we do every day—known as work—and also of those moments that sustain us without making a sound, those moments where coffee is the motivation to keep going.
As I write this, I’ve already had more than three cups of coffee, and the most important one is that first cup I have in the morning. It’s a simple gesture that, over time, becomes part of my routine—almost like a job—yet it’s full of meaning: breathing, giving thanks, and being present. The aroma of coffee mingles with the fresh morning air as the sun begins to shine, marking the start of the day.
In that same spot, there’s also a new plant that found its way into the house. It’s still small, settling into its new home, and it’ll be a real treat every morning to water it and watch it while I drink my coffee. Plus, that little purple flower stands out as a reminder that everything that begins needs care. It’s not enough to just bring it in and look at it; you have to give it time, just like coffee—the longer you brew it, the better it tastes.
This month of May is flying by, but it also requires patience and attention. Labor Day is worth remembering every day. It’s also a labor of love to allow ourselves to start the day with a cup of coffee in hand—it’s something truly precious in this life. That’s why, friends, this is a month that arrives with balance: between doing and being, between moving forward and pausing, between what we demand and what we need. And may that cup of coffee never be missing, because, without realizing it, it’s what truly sustains us day by day.
