Thornbridge Estate is a Grade II listed stately home that is now privately owned, but the house and gardens are open to the public.
They also have a quirkily named cafe on site called 'Quackers Cafe', which we visited today. The weather was perfect.
It just so happens it is Halloween week, which is one of my favourite times of the year. I've never worn makeup in my life, but ask me to put zombie makeup on, I'm first in line! When we heard they had a Halloween theme going on, we wanted to get into the spirit of things, so we rushed up there on our broomsticks like bats out of hell!
The cafe has a good selection of hot and cold food and drinks with an outdoor seating area, as well as indoor seating.
It looked as though the piano player had been there a very long time .... I hoped it wasn't indicative of how long it takes to get served. It did look fiendishly good, though.
We didn't have to worry. After a quick rendition of "Highway to Hell," we got served pretty quickly. We chose a pumpkin spiced latte, a blood curdling cappuccino and ham and cheese toasties with salad. I must admit I was slightly disappointed that my coffee wasn't served in a mini cauldron, but I was probably expecting far too much.
I did think the other customers left a lot to be desired. She looked like me in the morning ... only better.
There's lots going off in the grounds this week, with a Halloween trail, freaky food, lego printing and pumpkin activities. I wonder if they allow adults to join in the fun?
