I sit here in my living room sipping on some warm green tea. I’m reflecting on a calming experience I had a few months ago and at the same time, a buzzing one I had just a few days ago.
The Calming Tea Experience
The tea reminds me of a lovely tea experience I had late last year when I visited a Japanese tea shop with some colleagues. There, we learned about different types of Japanese tea, how to make and serve them. We met “Mr. Teacher”, a tea expert, who really provided a unique and warm experience. He was very hospitable. Though we weren’t having green tea for the first time, Mr. Teacher made it feel new and it was so refreshing and calming. I made sure to pick up a packet of green tea on my way out. I was also fortunate to get a photo with him. His “image” on the packet, added character to the tea. As I sip, fond memories flash across my mind.
The Buzzing Experience
So, what’s the buzz? Ofcourse, Valentines Day is just around the corner. Since about mid-January, I have been seeing and taking shots of decor and signs of the big February 14 celebration. I’ll drop some in this post. Chocolates of various kinds are all around and even regular products are now clad in valentine-like attire.
I thought all that was buzzy enough but had forgotten that the buzz gets hotter as the day draws closer. So two days ago, I went to pick up a birthday cake for a friend. Though people were masked and fairly socially-distant, many were out. Chocolate shops had people in queues and cake shops, the same. Though I was at a particular stall, I couldn’t help but look around at all the treats and “excitement”.
Is everyone in for the buzz?
Some people go all out for the day while others believe it’s all mere commercialization. I remember while growing up, I’d see people wear red and or white on the day as a symbol of love. Wait… was that commercialization as well? It certainly meant that some would go out to buy clothes of those colors, gifts too for sure. So, at this time of year, “love is all over the air”. Is it love…?The latter question reminds me of Bob Marley’s song, entitled, Is This Love.
What are your thoughts?
Personally, I love love and think it should be celebrated but not just on a particular day. Love is a lifestyle. That being said, I don’t mind receiving gifts on February 14 or any other day(I hope my partner is reading this hehe!). I don’t mind giving gifts on the day either. I’ll probably add some “love sprinkles” to my meals but honestly, I’m really not in for the craze. I have different views re birthdays but that’s for another time, post and conversation . Haha.
As I close this post and sip on a second cup of green tea, Happy Valentine’s Day when it comes ( to those who celebrate it). Let’s remember on a daily basis to give love.
Thank you for reading. Love and respect.
