Statistics show that of those who contract the habit of eating, very few survive.
- George Bernard Shaw -
I have a habit of eating. I acquired it way back in the distant past and, as most habits do, it has stuck with me.
It's not a bad habit of course, eating I mean, although some eating habits could be deemed as such. Generally speaking my eating habit is of the totally legit variety rather than the leshit variety and I'm pretty certain I'll continue to engage in the habit for quite some time to come as the consequences of not doing so could be dire.
I was thinking about my eating habits today after a conversation with a work colleague and, more specifically than my actual diet habits, about the foods I regularly eat, my go-to food choices. I decided to hit a café, as usually happens in the middle of my day, and those contemplations remained throughout my visit and my consumption of one of my food habits.
Café staple
Fortunately, here in Australia, most café's and coffee shops carry a wide array of foods to complement the beverages also on offer. Depending on where a person is, the food can differ greatly of course and some is better than others although there's one staple food a person can almost be guaranteed to bump into at virtually any café in the country...The croissant.
As I ate my ham and cheese croissant today I began to count how many I had consumed in my lifetime. [It took a while.]
Seventeen gazillion, four hundred and ninety seven bongzillion, three hundred and five bazjillion croissants is not even close to the real number and, if I'm honest I can't count that high anyway. I did a quick calculation though, and from the day I turned seventeen to today there's 1831 weeks so I'm going to average it out to one per week...1831 croissants.
$10,070 habit
Using $5.50 as an average price for each ham and cheese croissant means over ten thousand dollars worth of the buttery, flakey yumminess that are croissants have been consumed by me. Come on, how can you not be impressed! [or should I feel ashamed of myself]
We all have eating habits and for me a café, coffee and croissants just seem to go well together and whilst I make other choices as well, the croissant is typically my first choice. It is comfortable, dependable and it's rare to come across one done badly, although it's happened.
It was kind of cool to work out the approximate number of croissants I've eaten in my life and whilst it's a very ballpark figure it's interesting to turn it into a number and dollar figure; slightly confronting also. I wonder what your figure is? If you have a go-to café food do the sums and let me know in the comments below what the figures are and what the food is.
