Hi Hive Lovers
Every coffee you drink, should always have the exact same taste.
For those of you coffee connoisseurs who are accustomed to a cup of coffee served by a barista at your regular coffee shop, of course there is no problem with the taste of the coffee you drink.
That's because all baristas have the right calculation between coffee and water in your cup, it's standardized. They have paid attention to the coffee to water ratio, they have the coffee grind size and also the brewing time. These three things are important factors that are taken into account in the process of serving a delicious cup of coffee and the taste character is always the same in each cup.
I got this knowledge since I was a teenager from a close friend who has a barista certificate. He works at his own coffee shop and currently has more than 10 coffee outlets spread across several cities.
He has long answered my question which I made the title of this post. It turned out that later I realized that his explanation was an international standard in the coffee brewing process.
For those of you who brew your own coffee by only mixing water and coffee grounds, it is very important to pay attention to these standards. I quote important information and hope it will also be a reference for all of you to brew your coffee so that it always tastes the same and you will be satisfied with your own brewed coffee.
This standard was issued by the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association), they call it "The Golden Cup Standard", which is a recommendation for Best Coffee Making Practices followed by baristas around the world.
The default consists of 3 main things for Brewing Best Practices, I have made them in the following table to make it easier to understand:
| No | Element & Device | Information |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Coffee to water ratio | 55 gr/L ± 10% |
| 2 | Water temperature | 200°F ± 5° (93,0°C ± 3°) |
| 3 | Coffee to water contact time | 1-4 minutes for fine coffee grounds |
| 4 | 4-6 minutes for drops | |
| 5 | 6-8 minutes for coarse coffee grounds |
Simply put, I can describe it in mathematical calculations that 55 grams of coffee for 1 liter of brewed water means the ratio is 1:18 for coffee to brewed water. If made in a cup with a capacity of 210 ml, then the ratio is 12 gr of coffee for 210 ml of water.
Because it is a standard and a recommendation, then of course you can make your own comparison ratio depending on your taste. If you want a slightly lighter coffee taste, then you just need to reduce the amount of coffee or vice versa by adding the amount of coffee to get a stronger coffee taste.
When it comes to taste, of course, each of you has your own standards and it's just a matter of "keeping the measure" to get the right and consistent coffee taste based on your taste habits.

"Taste is the absolute property of each of you. If you as a coffee connoisseur still have to wait for your coffee to be served by a barista, then you should not claim to be a true coffee lover."
How about your taste?
