Arts
was sharpening a long knife and mumbling something to himself. He saw me stir and said whispering quietly..."
"Wake the Others,The Java Monsters are Here..."

Slowly and quietly I nudged Cameron while holding my finger up to my mouth in a gesture of silence and pointed at Arts. When I crawled over to wake G-Dog, his bedroll was empty. I looked quickly around the perimeter of the campsite for any signs of him. Just then Cameron pointed up. Somehow He had climbed up into a tree. He was about 10 meters above us and was slowly and quietly pulling up a backpack full of weapons, tied to a rope. Just an inch at a time. We took up defensive positions below that large oak tree.
As the first signs of daylight cracked the horizon through the trees. Arts broke radio silence. Only three words were transmitted.
"Dead By Dawn..."
The shots soon rang out in a rapid-fire pattern. Our Guardian Angel was alive and well. I was amazed at the drive and will to survive of this man from a land far away. And thankful that our paths had crossed. But how could He see his targets? Just then I remembered...
Arts suddenly jumped to his feet. He yelled... "Shoot These!"
Throwing grenades one at a time. We took aim and let the bullets find their mark. Shooting them while they were still in the air. High above the Java Monsters. So the contents would disperse and disable many of them. The explosives were laced with Non-Dairy Creamer and Sugar Crystals. We had learned early on that the Javas were destroyed when coming in contact with these substances. Cameron was next to throw a dozen or so bottles He had filled with water. He also had seen the Javas shrink away and avoid the water. As it weakened the Java Monsters. We could not tell how many Javas we were up against. We were just trying to buy time. To let the daylight find us. Would we really be...
Dead by Dawn?
We knew there were many Java Monsters as they were coming at us nonstop from every direction. Our shooter above us. Out of the Monsters reach. Continued to fire non-stop. I realized why He had taken so long to raise that backpack now. It must have weighed a ton packed full of this much ammo. I saw his night-vision goggles hit the ground at my feet as the darkness gave way to daylight. As the daylight came we fought for our lives. Cam grabbed me and pulled me from the grasp of a Java as I could feel its claws piercing my skin. Had our Narrow Boat Captain been a few seconds slower, those razor-sharp claws would have sunk deep into my flesh delivering a possibly fatal wound.
We turned to see a Java Monster nearly 3 times the size of the others bearing down on Arts. did not fall back. We had no shot and no way to get around to having one. We saw sparks from G's shots from above bouncing off of what seemed to be an armored exoskeleton. This was one of the Queen Javas! We had heard about them but had not seen one.
Just then Arts did the exact opposite of what we needed him to do so we could get a clean shot. He lunged towards the Queen Java showing no fear. Face to face with certain death. All the other Javas seemed to be frozen by this. Our shooter took this advantage to shoot them like the sitting ducks they had become. Knowing that a poorly placed shot on the queen's armor could easily ricochet and kill Arts.
It was only a few moments, but it gave Cam and me time to circle around from behind Arts to get a clear view to see if there were any "soft spots" to try and kill it. Suddenly Arts said something out loud to the Giant Monster in front of him, spun around, facing away from it, Just as it rose up to pounce on his backside. Exposing her weakness. He buried the long knife at his hip, behind his back, upward from underneath the Java Queen. Piercing the monster's soft unprotected underbelly. A scene that will forever be etched into my mind. He fell back and we opened fire. aiming for the spot that Arts had so masterfully plunged his blade. The Java Queen took 100's of rounds before it fell to the ground screeching and dying.
The remaining Javas. How many we do not know. They seemed unsure of whether to attack or retreat. It was clear to see they were communicating with the Java Monster Queen. Carrying out her commands.
Arts suddenly turned to us and yelled... "Take Cover! Hell is Here!!"
It seemed like the explosions were from every direction. The heat was intense and burned in my nose as I struggled to breathe. Surely this was the end? Just when it seemed I could no longer bear it and would burst into flames. Water started to rain down on us. Arts later explained to us that the military had rained down a napalm-like substance laced with ionized sugar/creamer. Followed quickly by a fire-fighting aircraft water dump.
Charred and Burnt...
I could hear helos, the chopping sound of the blades cutting thru the thick smoke-filled morning air. Intermittent gunfire and explosions. Charred and burnt remains of what once was a thick forest at the foot of a mountain military compound. I struggled to stand, dizzy from all that we had been through. Exhaustion had set in. I needed to know if our guardian angel high above us, in what was left of the burned trees, had somehow survived the onslaught that was meant to be a covert and quiet extraction.
Through the burning smoke and haze of my tired, blurred, and watering eyes. Arts walked over to me to hand me an oxygen mask. His face bloodied and blackened, He said... "Hang in there KrazzyTrukker, The next chopper is for you." And then with a wink and a nod He shouted in a German Accent... "GIT TO DA CHOPPA!"
How could this LOON still have his sense of humor? Was He bat shit crazy? I think not. As I also heard what He had said just before plunging the razor-sharp blade into the Java Monster Queen that He had stood face to face with. This time He said four words...
"This is for Pura..."
