Back in the summer of 2022 when we were still living in France my sister came to visit us at our home. It was her first time in France and I believe her first time in Europe, so we spent a few days touring her around the area and showing her the sites. On one of the days we took the train into Paris to see the city and sample a few of its Parisian cafés.
We found a pretty unassuming location along one of the streets near the Louvre and stopped to enjoy a cappuccino and a latte. Or maybe it was a flat white, I don't really remember.
Anyway, the coffees were pretty good. Hers had a dusting of cocoa powder on it as you can see. I prefer not to have cocoa on mine, but I will admit that it does make it look fancier.
Whenever we go somewhere I often like to try the local dessert specialties of the place, if possible. Paris is a massive city though, so it doesn't really have just one specialty, more like hundreds. I remembered reading about this little spot called Odette though, that supposedly sold really good cream puffs.
I had seen the building before but never knew what it's purpose was. I figured that this with my sister would be a good time to check it out. The shop is set in this neat little spot sort of sandwiched and hidden within the corner of two other much larger buildings. It's a really quaint and charming shop and sort of a hidden gem in the area.
I popped in to buy some cream puffs, opting for a box of six for 11.00 euro. I figured that two euro a dessert was pretty reasonable, if they were good. They had a large selection and I ended up choosing the following flavors: chocolate, vanilla, caramel, coffee, lemon, and mango. We took them home and had them for dessert that night.
My sister, my wife and I each had two of them but we also cut them in half to swap and try some additional flavors.
Our expectations were pretty low before hand so we were all pleasantly surprised at how good they were. They were really delicious in flavor and texture and I only wished that I had bought more.
Odette in Paris is definitely a hidden gem in my opinion, in more ways than one. The building itself is pretty neat to go and see and the desserts that they sell are incredibly delicious. It's certainly worth checking out in the big city.
