Ah, what a morning. It truly deserved an affogato or two.
I awoke around 3:00 p.m. (I know), and the first thing I did was drag myself to the kettle. I filled it to the brim, and while it hissed and spit and sputtered I ground some Illy coffee and agreed with every complaint the kettle seemed to have.
“Yes, yes,” I said. “Me too, me too.”
With fresh, manual-ground beans—which smelled like rich earth and dark chocolate—i chased the grounds through an aeropress with boiled water.
Today, however, was not a day for a simple filtered coffee. We had tubs of ice cream chilling in the freezer.
My first coffee was poured over a tiny mountain of Van Leeuwen coffee ice cream. Who would have thought that coffee goes so well with coffee?
Two cups of coffee are often better than one, so of course I poured myself another cup. This time, I scooped pistachio ice cream into the cat bowl to swim in another fresh and hot pour of coffee.
It was such pleasure to carve coffee-wet ice cream with a little spoon and to sip from the ear of the cat bowl.
Ice cream and coffee—what a fantastic pairing!
