The next day we had several things to attend to outside the house, among them was to go to my in-laws' house, who live in another city, an hour and a half away with no vehicular traffic, so we had to leave early to get everything done.
My beloved husband commented to me in the evening, "Don't start preparing breakfast, we will eat in the street or when we get to my mother's house, besides she always has food ready for us".
Many will think that he does this so as not to delay our departure, so as not to waste time eating breakfast at home and delay our planning. The truth is that he finds it hard to get up early, he prefers not to eat but to sleep half an hour longer. I can wake up at 6:00 am and have a nice breakfast with a cup of hot coffee served at the table at 7:00 am, to leave at 8:00 am or earlier.
He for his part prefers to get up at 7:30 am to leave at 8:00 am. That night I just nodded my head in agreement with the suggestion.
In the morning, after taking a bath I woke my husband up, so while he showered I got dressed. Without saying anything I headed to the kitchen to make coffee. I can't leave my house without even drinking a cup of coffee. The process would be quick because it was only the amount of two large cups for each of us. I was sure I would not refuse the coffee.
Once I was dressed and perfumed, my husband approached the kitchen and I commented, "A cup of coffee if we are going to drink". To which he replied, "Yes, of course."
I poured in the cups and sweetened his, I'm drinking the coffee black with no sugar. And as my mom says, "Coffee is drunk sitting down." For as long as I can remember, I remember that phrase my mom uses, because the moment of drinking coffee is sacred.
So I invited him to sit down to taste the freshly brewed hot coffee. When I tasted the coffee I knew right away that I had made the right decision. I must have coffee first thing in the morning in a harmonious environment to go along with my drink. That first coffee symbolizes starting a productive day, with energy, leaving laziness aside, it is the time to plan and then execute.
Even if I have an established agenda, that morning sharing in the company of coffee can change the actions to be taken.
Returning to the story, I went back to the kitchen to pour the little amount of coffee I had left in the pot so that it would not get cold and turned off the machine, once we finished drinking the coffee, we were ready to start the day's activities.
We took advantage of the time and even did a little maintenance on the vehicle (engine oil, filter and spark plugs change). We arrived at my in-laws' house after 11:00 am without having breakfast. Again I reminded my husband of the importance of drinking coffee early and even more so if we had to go on the road. Had it not been for the cup of coffee, the hunger and headache would not have been long in coming.
I hope to continue reading accounts of experiences with the first coffee of the morning. I would like to invite .
