As some of you know, I have been travelling with my mom. I love traveling with her because she could make me forget my phone and work for a while. I’d like to say my mom is also my friend but my friends would like to argue, she’s my mom, not a friend. It's, well, complicated. But anyway, she understands how I love coffee. We went to so many cafes together but she rarely orders coffee. She would prefer to order just a glass of lychee tea. Only after I told her how I have been buying starbuck constantly, she wondered how good the coffee is that makes me keep coming back to them. Where she lives, there’s no starbucks and which is also why I have been reluctant to go home. Once you taste starbucks, you can never go back. We also often joked about opening Starbucks in our town and wondered how much it cost to open one. Then, my cousin would say that the only customer would be me because the price is too expensive for the people there.
Whenever I go to a coffee shop with my mom, she likes to tell the barista that I have way too many coffee collections at home. And sometimes, she points finger at the tools and tells the barista,” she has it too”. The things she does are typical mom things but it’s okay for me. I actually wonder what others think since she's the only person who is seemingly older in a place filled with hip youngsters.
In the past we used to do coffee dates but since now we are living apart, We didn’t do it anymore. So when we travelled together, I made her taste starbucks and took her to a cafe that I discovered. She trusted my choice and she was fine with having coffee selection. I got her java chip frappuccino which is made from coffee, mocha with whipped cream and frappuccino chips. All I did was just simply take notes of what she likes and I ended up choosing that for her. Meanwhile, I got the grande decaf caramel macchiato, the usual.
After a few sips, she told me that it tasted good and that she genuinely likes it. I barely saw her impressed with coffee but it seems Starbucks impressed her. Maybe it’s the sugar, maybe something else, but since she has a sweet tooth, I could see her liking it.
Since Christmas is near, Starbuck also rolls out their festive Christmas themed cup. Unfortunately, this cup is only given if you order from the seasonal menu. Otherwise, they won’t give you the Christmas cup. There are some on their Christmas menu and it has a peppermint-dominated flavor. I tried something with toffee and peppermint and didn’t like it. They also have plenty of new pastry selections that I wanted to try but haven't had the chance yet. This week, I have been out and only the last 3 days being home and sick. And tomorrow, I am going to travel again too. So, I haven’t had the chance to explore coffee again these days.
