Hello, coffee lovers!
Finally I visited a café near my house: El Hato Grill Café.
The day was hot as usual here on this sunny coast in eastern Venezuela. My sister told me she was going there with my nephew. We joined in.
...which is located inside a supermarket: El Hato Grill .
I'd come in for groceries and see the nice atmosphere of the place, but I never stopped to say "let's have some coffee". I guess we're always in a hurry.
They have some national and imported coffee brands.
I've found this one here at a good price compared to other stores: $6. My sister, who is my boss at my second job out of town, sometimes buys this brand for us at the office. It is delicious. The beans come from Cuba, then are processed and packaged in the US. Personally, I prefer to buy the beans and grind them at home, but if I hadn't bought two kilos of coffee yesterday, I'd buy this one right there.
As soon as you enter the store, you'll see the café on your left.
The place is very well lit, the air conditioning is a balm for the soul under the scorching sun of Cumana. The place was quite crowded yesterday, as it was Children's Day, so it was noisier than I like, but in general, there was a lot of joy in the air.
Everything looked delicious. We decided to order coffee and cakes.
My sister ordered a portion of black forest cake and a cappuccino; I ordered a portion of tiramisu and a mocaccino. The boys ordered a special espresso that comes with a piece of chocolate that gradually melts ("exprecholatte," they call it; I think it's really confusing because "latte" means "milk").
The waiter was very attentive and brought us extra spoons so we could share our desserts. Seriously, who wants to share dessert? But thank you.
The black forest was delicious but didn't taste like it. My sister was very disappointed not to find the liqueur and cherry flavor she was expecting. She is a big lover of black forest cake.
Unfortunately my tiramisu didn't taste enough like coffee or cream cheese. But it was tasty; you just had to get the delicious tiramisu that your old Italian friend's granny makes out of your head and you'll be fine with all the cream and sponge cake.
All the coffees were great! I'd definitely come back for more coffee.
Below you can check coffees and cakes on the menu.
Just before uploading this post I noticed that the dessert prices are not on the menu. Below you can see that the portion of tiramisu cost approx. $3 and the portion of black forest cake, approx. $3.5 (tax included).
All in all, the experience at this cafe was very pleasant. Although it was noisier than usual, the atmosphere was friendly and the service was excellent. By the time we were leaving, it was past noon and several people had already started ordering lunch. I don't know if I would try the food here, but I can guarantee that the coffee was delicious. I'm coming for more soon!.
