☕ A wonderful FILTERED coffee at Melosa Café || Un maravilloso FILTRADO en Melosa Café

Another day exploring the city of Caracas in search of a good cup of coffee. This time we visited a small, very small, place called Melosa Café.

Let me tell you about it.

Every time I had visited the San Ignacio Shopping Center in the east of the city, I had passed by this small coffee shop, but I never imagined it was a specialty coffee shop. I found out about this during my countless visits to Carbone Café, my favorite coffee shop. It turns out that the last time I visited Carbone, the guys who work here were chatting with a friend of theirs who is also a barista but works somewhere else...you can guess where, right? That's when I met Alan, who very kindly invited us to spend a day at Melosa Cafe.

Then, one Saturday afternoon, walking through the streets of the city, we felt like having a good coffee and instantly remembered Alan's invitation. When we arrived at Melosa, the guy recognized us immediately and, even though it was his day off, he served us in an incredible way. He gave us a couple of suggestions and recommendations, highlighting three different types of beans. I liked the fact that each of the three containers holding the beans had its own label with tasting notes. One of the beans had notes of peach, orange, chamomile, nuts, and yellow fruits, while another had notes of lime, brown sugar, orange, and cocoa nibs. Since we couldn't decide on one in particular, Alan told us he could prepare a blend, that is, a mixture of beans. So we took his word for it and also decided on a V60 filter coffee.

This, ladies and gentlemen, was art at its finest.

Alan explained each step of the filtering process to us in a wonderful way. It was basically a master class on the physical and chemical processes involved in coffee, which I found fascinating and extremely easy to understand because, well, you know... I studied chemistry at university and I'm a bit of a nerd, even if I don't look like it. I don't have the words to describe the taste of this coffee, but what I can tell you is that every note was 100% identifiable. We sat there for a while without talking, simply enjoying that excellent coffee and its very special aroma.

Another plus point for Melosa is those little phrases strategically placed around the shop. If there's one thing I absolutely love, it's the little details they add inside the cups, like this phrase that said: “I am the coffee that shakes up your melatonin” and also the phrase that was subtly placed in the center of the table: “I don't know how crazy you are, but I do know that you need to drink a little more coffee.” How clever!

This is the positive thing and what I love about going out to explore. What I mean is that if I hadn't frequented Carbone, I probably wouldn't have met the great barista Alan and Melosa Café, and obviously I wouldn't have had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy this incredible filtered coffee. That's why you have to leave home, explore, and get to know new places, because I'm sure there will always be excellent coffee waiting for you where you least expect it.

Un día más recorriendo la ciudad de Caracas en busca de un buen café. En esta oportunidad visitamos un pequeño, muy pequeño, local llamado Melosa Café.

A ver, te cuento.

Las veces que había visitado el Centro Comercial San Ignacio al Este de la ciudad, había pasado al lado de este pequeño local de café pero realmente nunca imaginé que se tratara de un café de especialidad. Me enteré de esto último en las inumerables veces que había ido a Carbone Café, mi cafetería favorita. Resulta que la última vez que visité Carbone los chicos que atienden aquí estaba entablando una conversación con un amigo de ellos que también es barista pero que trabajaba en otro lugar...ya te puedes imaginar a qué otro lugar me refiero, ¿cierto? Fue en esta ocasión en donde conocí a Alan quien nos invitó muy cordialmente a pasar un día por Melosa Café.

Entonces, un Sábado por la tarde cualquiera, caminando por las calles de la ciudad se nos antojó tomar un buen café y al instante nos recordamos de la invitación de Alan. Al llegar a Melosa, el chico nos reconoció de inmediato y, a pesar de que era su día libre, nos atendió de una manera increíble. Él nos dio un par de sugerencias y recomendaciones en las cuales destacaban tres tipos de grano diferentes. Me gustó el hecho de que cada uno de los tres envases en donde se encontraba el grano a escoger tenía su respectiva etiqueta con las notas de cata. Uno de los granos tenía notas de durazno, naranja, manzanilla, frutos secos y frutos amarillos, otro tenía notas de lima, panela, naranja y nibs de cacao. Como no lográbamos decidirnos por uno en particular Alan nos dijo que podía preparar un blend, es decir, una mezcla de granos. Así que tomamos su palabra y nos decidimos también por un café filtrado con V60.

Esto, señores, fue arte en su máxima expresión.

Alan nos explicó de una manera maravillosa cada paso del proceso de filtrado. Fue básicamente una clase magistral de procesos físico-químicos relacionados con el café que a mí simplemente me fascinó y que se me hacía sumamente fácil de comprender porque, bueno, ya saben...estudié Química en la Universidad y soy un poco nerd aunque no pareciera. No tengo palabras para describirles el sabor de este café, pero lo que sí les puedo decir es que cada nota era 100% identifidable. Estuvimos un rato sentadas sin hablar, simplemente disfrutando de ese café excelente y del aroma tan especial.

Otro punto adicional para Melosa son esas pequeñas frases distribuidas estratégicamente. Si hay algo que amo con locura son los pequeños detalles que agregan en el interior de las tazas, como esta frase que decía: "soy el café que estremece tu melatonina" y también la frase que se encontraba en el sutil centro de mesa: "no sé qué tan loco esté usted, pero sí sé que le hace falta tomar un poco más de café" ¡qué ingenioso!

Esto es lo positivo y lo que me encanta de salir a conocer. Es decir, a lo que me refiero es que, si no hubiese frecuentado Carbone muy posiblemente no hubiese conocido al buen barista Alan y a Melosa Café y, obviamente, no hubiese tenido la oportunidad tan maravillosa de disfrutar de este increíble café filtrado. Por eso hay que salir de casa, a recorrer y conocer porque estoy segura de que siempre habrá un café excelente esperando por ti en el lugar que tú menos te lo esperas.
