I am in my peaceful Saturday mood while enjoying a Honduras coffee now. A relatively classical taste that is accompanied by some cocoa nuances. I like this one on espresso a lot and don’t mind if every morning starts with it.
I’m thinking of the baby again. Hasn’t come out yet… and this fact makes me and my wife quite nervous lately. But it’s coffee time now and I’ll try not to focus on this too much.
First let’s start with the last Sunday… we went to share a coffee with a friend we havent seen in a while, and what a better place to to that than the Specialty place where we hang out relatively often. The act of switching jobs gave me a bit more free time, after the end of the last one and the official start of the new contract, so this week we managed to visit the place 3 times (as for now). We love the armosphere and the ability to enjoy some time with the owner, who is always willing to talk about wide variety of topics - coffee(of course), food, personal life and experiences.
While we waited for our friend to come, the girlfriend of the owner came out with a very special treat for us. She gave us a piece of cake which she will soon launch officially. It was like a little pre-premiere for us. Not every customer has the chance to try this, so we feel a bit more special! 😁
The cake was made of banana bread pan, and the cream was with mascarpone and white chocolate. Usually all her desserts are not overly sweet and this makes them easily rnjoyable. A speciall addition made the cake even fruitier. You see the orange part in the cream? Its mango and papya jelly! We were asked if we can guess whats in the cake without being told, and i think we dealt with the task relatively easy. They didn’t take us money for the tasting, which was a great compliment.
Thursday gave us another opportunity to bisit the place and after the barista made us a beautiful filter coffee originating from Mexico he said “Oh, I forgot to brew you something that you’ll definitely find interesting! Well, I guess you can enjoy it side by sode with your filter.”
So he took out a strangely looking bottle with a hand writing on ot.
“Kopi Kan Ninety plus roastery”
He explained that some customer left this at the cafe when he had a short stop on his way towards the seaside. It’s great that we are located in the center of the country so people from the capital can bring us interesting goods!
The first inhale after opening the bottle gave me a perfect explanation about this coffee. It was anaerobically processed! It had this distinctive sour and fermented aroma of the Costa Rica coffee that I have purchased some time ago. Excitement built up on me extremely fast. I haven’t had similar coffee since then.
The ownet of the Specialty Place also wasnt sure where the stranger took his coffee from, but he simply found it somewhere on a coffee exhibition and decided to take away some, without telling anyone. And this coffee made its way to Kazanlak! What a surprise!
When ground, coffee was even more expressive. And it wasn’t brewed yet.
In the mouth the taste was wild, as expected and the sourness was substantial. As the coffee cooled a bit, it became even more flavorful and interesting. The berry fruitiness gave a lot of complexity to the flavor. I couldn’t ask for more. This was more than perfect. And again, the owner didn’t took us any money for this coffee.
Every single time I visit it I like it even more. The surroundings, the coffee, the whole atmosphere and the great attention about customers at first place. The last is not that common for the retail sector in Bulgaria, which is sad, and having a place like this nearby is a jackpot!
So much for now. Have a wondeeful weekend!
Bye and see you soon!
