What I see before drinking coffee
It's 09:00 in the morning!
A few hours later than my usual rising time, and quietly I slip off the bed not to disturb my husband who has just nodded off to sleep after returning home from his night shift. I peek through my window and I'm having a hazy memory of my last thoughts before I drifted off to sleep the night before. There was a slight feeling of sadness, but I somehow managed to tune out all negative thoughts by listening to my breath, which must have worked because I slept deep and sound.
Still, I rise, and I'm feeling groggy like I haven't slept.
There are a few errands and some chores on my day's agenda, and on auto-pilot, my finger switches my computer on. My eyes do a quick scan of what awaits me in the virtual world, but my brain says: "Damn you bitch, would you switch me on with coffee!"
Ignorantly I try to go on, but my brain and visual senses seem to be at war, and there's a slight sense of confusion. The frequency of my brainwaves and my ability to focus just can't seem to correlate. There's a feeling of turbulence in my head, my mood is low and I'm feeling a pounding beat at the front of my head that's fast becoming unbearable.
My eyes attempt to scan across my computer screen, but it becomes a big blur, and I can no longer ignore the misery in my head.
... There's like a jammed record in my head going
"Coffee first"
"Coffee first"
"Coffee first".
In bulldozer mode, with an invisible DO NOT DISTURB sign written over me, and my body language warning DO NOT DISOBEY, I make my way to the kitchen straight to the plethora of coffee machines, ground coffee, and coffee pods...
Just a whiff of coffee and blood rushes to my head, and my heart palpitates.
You see, when it comes to coffee, not any old coffee will not do. I like quality coffee, so there's a strong aroma that requires coffee at godspeed.
I opt for a coffee pod from the Nespresso machine - quick and no faffing around.
Nespresso flavours are all good, so there's no need for eeny, meeny, miny, ... Just moe ... and it's a rich soothing aroma and tasty Caramel Creme Brulee.
One sip triggers a release of endorphins, and the texture is smooth. The taste is rich with a light nutty flavour, and of course, it's Black.
My senses and my brain are activated and working in unison.
Bing! There's vibrant colour in my world.
What I see after drinking coffee
It's now 09:05!
Well... Hello Sunshine...!
The World's a brighter place after coffee.
I'm on your mark, set, and ready to go, after my first cup.
With coffee, I'm determined to make the day a good day. After drinking my first cup of coffee, I feel like my equilibrium is balanced, and the world and people around me are safer. My emotions are positive, and I take things calmly I take a meticulous approach and apply great effort to all my daily tasks. Coffee makes me more rational and I become more mindful and active in the present I cherish every single moment of the day and see beauty in everything. Drinking coffee grounds me and makes me feel a good sense of balance in my life, and makes me smile and see the humourous side of things.
What I love most is that coffee helps me to alleviate boredom by stimulating my creative side which helps to refresh and renew my mind.
Nonetheless, I wouldn't say I'm dependent on coffee, but I do feel better and I'm the best version of myself whenever I drink coffee.
How about you? How do you feel after drinking your first cup of coffee in the morning? Do you like it hot or cold? Have you ever really thought about how you actually feel after drinking coffee?
