The girl who doesn't drink coffee
My boyfriend drinks coffee like it's water. Okay, that's an exaggeration! Haha! Let me rephrase that.๐ He just loves coffee. His previous posts [1, 2 ] about his coffee moments prove my statement's validity.
Just last weekend, we went on a pre-Valentine trip and he ordered a local coffee during lunch. He offered it to me so I could try it; I hesitated as I don't drink coffee. I gave it a try and ended up commenting "Why do you even drink coffee, it's too bitter!" He gladly replied: It's not just bitter, there are layers of taste that unravel in your mouth when you drink it.
Sadly, the smallest drop of coffee in my bloodstream makes me palpitate that another sip would make me want to rush myself to the ER. Even before I was clinically diagnosed with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), this has always been the case. ๐
For the record, I only drank coffee twice. The first was when I was around 13 years old when I passed out in our public market during an early visit. Those who responded, mostly fish and meat vendors, gave me coffee to regain my consciousness and strength. The 2nd one was during a youth camp. I juggled school stuff and extra-curricular activities (nonschool-related) before. I had to stay alive and active on an afternoon during an important project presentation. I pulled an all-nighter and there's no other option but to drink a cup of hot coffee. It worked and we bagged two awards for our community project.
And that was it. My short but sweet encounter with coffee until I crossed paths with the love of my life and learned that coffee comes in different flavors.
I know I wouldn't understand why people love coffee as much as my boyfriend loves it, but I'm fascinated with the intricacies associated with coffee - from growing, harvesting, roasting and finally preparing a great cup of hot or cold coffee. There was even a time I thought I have to learn what makes a cup of coffee great; of course, I'd love to prepare the best cup for him every day one day. ๐
For now, let me share with you guys one of the working dates we had in a local cafe in my hometown! Let's dive in!
Lokal Brew: Home to Carcar's Best Coffee
It was GB's first time in Lokal Brew. I've mentioned this place to him a couple of times before since this is my favorite cafe in my hometown. It might be small but I've spent memorable afternoons and late nights here with my closest friends. At times, I'd just spend quality time with myself here.
On a weekend last year, GB came over to join us in celebrating my mother's birthday. On the same weekend, he had a scheduled online training. We don't have a reliable mobile connection at home hence our last resort was to go somewhere with an internet connection. I suggested Lokal Brew right away to which he agreed.
I wouldn't highlight the cafe's interior as it is not the point of this post but can't skip it altogether so here's a glimpse of what you could expect from Lokal Brew's interior and space.
An extraordinary coffee
As I mentioned earlier, it was supposed to be a working date. He'd attend his webinar and I'd be busy writing for my next blog but unfortunately, his webinar got canceled at the last minute. We were already in the cafe; I thought it'd be weird to walk out and go home. We continued with the working date.
As usual, I ordered a cream-based frappe. My go-to order has always been anything with chocolate from cookies and cream to dark chocolate. I rarely order anything other than chocolate-flavored drinks.
My boyfriend looked at the menu and tried to find something new, something he haven't tried in other coffee shops before. Lo and behold, he found this gem:
As I am not a fan of coffee, I don't know if this exists somewhere else. Here they called it Coffee Flight and for only $3, you'll have a shot of Spro Macchiato, a shot of Flat White and to seal this signature drink is Bold Brew.
We only planned of ordering drinks, but since his webinar was cancelled, we ordered Carbonara. It was not as good as the one I had in Morty Bakes.
If you're interested in what else they can offer, here's their menu:
They also sell roasted coffee beans:
I may never be excited to drink a cup of coffee but I'll certainly look forward to spending lazy afternoons or peaceful mornings with my beloved while he's enjoying his coffee or while we're working on something. I love working dates! When you're tired from working, you can just draw inspiration when you stare at your partner. ๐
And that's a wrap for today's Patsitivity's Palate featuring Lokal Brew in Carcar City, Cebu. Have you tried a similar coffee drink? Share your experience in the comment section! โค๏ธ
