“Let’s have a coffee,” Vinnie said as she approached me on the pavement.
“No, I have to go to the office and submit my resume.”
“What, you’re going to an office to submit your resume, you can do it online.”
“I know the HR person at that company, so maybe she’ll help me!”
“Hey, man, will it matter if you go after an hour or two? Let’s go.”
OK, I know you won’t agree. Let’s go to the Quality Coffee House.
No, I like Copa Cabanas. I will go there.
“let’s go there.”
It was a cold afternoon. The sun was hiding behind a thick layer of clouds and fog, its rays barely reaching the earth.
Vinny was busy on her Instagram account while drinking coffee at the Copa Cabana. Seeing her lost in her phone, I asked, “What are you looking at?”
“Nothing, just this picture which has gone viral.” And she sipped from his cup of coffee.
I miss the times when we used to spend a lot of time together, but now most of my time I spent either in a coffeehouse or looking for a job! Then flashbacks appeared, depicting the delusions constantly running through and scattered so unsystematically in my mind.
Often man assumes that he is the most important person in this world. He feels that if he is in this world; I am supreme and everything around me exists because I’m the one who controls it. The man has a very important place in the life of his family and acquaintances.
We consider ourselves no lesser than the Sun, around which the planets move to consider our life as most important and as if nothing else matters. We even consider ourselves in control of the lives of others. Few people even thought as if they were the most successful people in the world, but they soon see the reality.
And some of us consider ourselves to be the pillars and supporters of others’ lives and one day silently face the reality. If you feel you are important in the lives of your loved ones, but believing that their world revolves around you is your biggest mistake, your biggest foolishness.
I used to consider myself as one of the most successful professionals until last year, but things suddenly changed when the news of my layoffs came.
I woke up one fine morning with all the rejections in my life and found myself small to the size of a tiny worm. I agree I wanted to give a better life to my family. But in that process, I had turned myself into a machine. I used to get up early in the morning. I was running like crazy every morning to reach the station to catch the train to reach my bank on time.
Then I would listen to the instructions of the boss, but this was my routine for the last few years. I had a satisfying life of my own, and also because my love and my favorite coffeehouse were close to me. It satisfied me I could give myself a comfortable life by living in a beautiful apartment and seeing my friends and loved ones.
But after hearing that news from my manager, I felt as if he had turned me into a worm. After that, I started worrying about what would happen to my job. What will happen to the family after I lose my job? My parents were worried about me after I lost my job. Then the feelings of anxiety, fear, and apathy kept coming and going. In the end, my parents told me to come back home because it was part of life.
Part of my story might sound fictional, but it’s the reality of my life. You can always say that it is psychologically and philosophically related to life, but you may find my story full of despairs. As you read this, I can tell you, coffee has played a significant role in reducing the frustration in my life.
You realize that even after you, the world will continue to move at the same speed. The life of your loved ones will not be as bad as you imagined without you. Troubles come, and sudden and unexpected things happen in life, but life never stops.
Since coffee, in this case, is a symbol of life to me, it helps ease the moments of despair in my life. My love, the girl I loved the most, is no longer with me, but when she was, I never felt like I had lost my job. But you know, nothing good or bad in your life is always permanent.
Come on man, what are you thinking? Your coffee is getting cold. Listening to Vinny suddenly, I came back to the present.
We came out of Copa Cabanas!
"Hey Vinny, come to my house when you're free, I have bought Neuherbs Organic Green Coffee Beans. Let's try them on your next visit" I took her leave and boarded an autorickshaw.
