Hail to the Hive!
Coffee is great isn’t it? I mean it’s a drug yes, but so what it’s a great natural buzz and tastes delicious. Personally I love the stuff and as drugs go coffee is amazing. I love to make my own brewed coffee on board in a variety of different ways, such as our new vacuum filter ‘Breaking Bad’ style coffee maker.
I also love to treat myself and indulge in a coffee from different coffee shops from time to time.
But the other day I found out I can also heat my boat this winter with coffee! I thought to myself ‘ well I’m just going to have to give this a go!’
So While I was doing my usual supply run I decided on a whim to purchase some of these coffee logs for our wood/coal burner onboard Badger the Narrowboat. I was thinking ‘Let’s give them a go and see how they burn’ I love burning stuff so why the hell not?
They look ok but I was expecting them to smell more coffee than they do. No aroma whatsoever which was a huge disappointment if I am honest. I was hoping they might make the boat stink of coffee.
So withiut further ado I sruck em in with some kindling and set them alight and waited.
As far as combustibility goes they burned very well and kicked out an enormous amount of heat. But they didn’t last as long as I was hoping they would for the price and they didn’t give off any discernible aroma of coffee awesomeness so I was left a little disappointed. But not cold though haha 😛.
Would I buy them again……… ?
Only if there were no other alternatives. i mean they work but not worth the money and considering they are recycled coffee grounds I think they are trying to cash in on the eco vibe rather than really trying to provide a viable alternative. At half the price I would definitely buy alot of them to use alongside the other combustibles I use.
Was worth a try though.
