Hail to the Hive!
After a very pleasant and rewarding 12 days in the Sinai we returned to Cairo. It’s an easy one hour flight plus 25 to 30 mins in Cairo traffic and we were back at the Pyramids. Sadly we couldn’t get a room where we were before but the brothers that ran that place found us a good spot and said we were welcome for tea and coffee anytime on their rooftop. I said I will see you in the morning as any promise of coffee is one I will gladly take you up on.
As views from a balcony go I couldn’t complain, four and a half thousand year old pointy buildings right in sight.
had stuff to do first thing in the morning as she makes the most use of her time and had made quite the makeshift office with Pyramid backdrop for her morning #hive time. I said I am off for a coffee and we agreed to meet up shortly.
It was only a 5 minute stroll past the ever present hawkers to the old hotel we were at last time and as I climbed up to the rooftop cafe to see the brothers I was instantly greeted by another familiar and very furry face. I sat down and was then equally as warmly greeted by the brothers who run the place and asked for a coffee black but he suggested I maybe try a Turkish coffee instead. I said sure why not. Now I don’t normally take sugar in my coffee but I relented when urged and said maybe a little.
Now it was every bit as strong as I expected and it is served very think with coarse coffee grounds in it, which I allowed to settle a little as I admired the view.
I took a nice sniff and it also smelled amazing, now to have a sip. Mmm wonderful strong and tasty. But one to sip and savour the flavour, not to gulp down. I immediately knew I’d be ordering a second soon after as I remembered how I enjoyed taking in these views on my last visit, happily sitting for hours watching the tourists like ants around the pyramids.
Now we sampled many a rooftop and viewing position for the old pointy buildings but none came close to this little hidden gem. And I can honestly say a better place to get lost in thought and savour a lovely coffee you will never find. It is quite literally magical.
Oh it’s called the 7 Pyramids Inn in case you’re ever in Cairo 😜
