Earlier this evening I broke one of my very important Rule of coffee drinking - no espresso drinks after 6 pm. (Drip coffee is fine, sometimes. But never an espresso based drink).
And yet, there I was - sipping away sheepishly at my latte at quarter to 9 pm! As a result, I am going to be up for quite a while tonight - that was one good, strong cup of coffee! F*ck you sleep cycle!
I was considering starting starting season 4 of "Jack Ryan," I had been waiting for this final season for years now. But my wife hasn't watched season 1 through 3, so I'm going to give her a chance to catch up and watch season 4 together. Rewatching "The Office" was also on the agenda. I have just finished watching binge watching seasons 1 and 2 of "Barcelona - A new era," hence no more sports documentaries for a while. I might still watch some episodes of "The Office," but with my newfound vigor for writing blogs again after 2 long months I am definitely going to enjoy some of the free time churning out some words. Why not eh!
So back again. I was out with my wife looking for a place to have dinner when we came across this little bakery shop.
The baked goods and desserts looked almost irresistible. But I was not up for spoiling my dinner appetite with dessert. And hence it was decided, first we go grab a bite and then return for dessert. And that is what we did.
It was nearly closing time, most of the goodies were already sold out. There were large stacks of empty shelves, but whatever remained - smelt really, really good! Nice and savory.
The chocolate buns (they called it chocolate custard for some reason - I don't know why and I don't care either!) were glaring at us and just as we were contemplating whether we would take them, the corner of my eyes caught a glimpse of something else at the counter. And even before my brain fully processed what it was I knew that's what I was having for dessert tonight.
No if, but or coconut!
Egg Tarts!
Now I know it might sound a bit exaggerating, but believe you me this is extremely difficult to find in my country. To be exact, I have been looking for these for nearly 5 and a half years since returning home and today I found it - after all this time!
A bit of a backstory here - I love egg tarts! I especially loved the ones from "Casa Miel," a bakery that was about 10 minutes bike ride from my dormitory in med school. Almost every morning I would take that detour for that egg tart and their coffee before heading to the library. I had no idea how much I would miss it once I left, I had no idea it was so difficult to find here.
My wife was actually quite surprised when I ordered 4. We usually discuss the food we wanted to order - but as I said, today there was going to be no ifs, buts or coconuts! She looked at me and asked isn't 2 enough (one for her, one fore me)? My response was almost robotic, as if programmed to say it - you can have one if you like, I'll have the remaining 3!
Needless to say, she didn't give up on her second one - they were really good! So good that the latte was almost becoming secondary in a coffee post!
In all fairness, this was a really good latte! The bitterness worked out perfectly to balance the (slight) sweetness of the tarts. The brownies had a lemon zesty flavor which was a bit strange, but not too shabby!
My wife as always went ahead and degraded her cup with a whole pack of white sugar. Just a regular day at the office for me!
I don't know which #tcsp prompt this post goes with, but I'd say week 27 is a good fit as incidentally there were some nice wall art on the back wall.
Well, here's to a long night fellas! Look sharp!
