My first time eating Churros
When I just moved to Spain the first time, I quite loved churros from the first moment I discovered them. We lived in this small town where the local bar on the corner of the municipality building would be filled with people every morning. Most of them had churros for breakfast. A lot of them dipping the churros in chocolate and other in their coffee.
I quickly learned that my favourite way was dipping them into my coffee. I also remember sitting there enjoying the weather and small talk we had with the waiter working there, as he spoked Dutch. He told us he lived in Holland for some time and it seems that he liked practicing his Dutch again when we went there.
It was no surprise that this little place was packed every morning and afternoon because it was one of the few with a nice view, I also remember the waterfall they created in the pond there. We used to walk there with the stroller and our (at the time) 4 month old baby to calm her down because she was easily overstimulated and therefore cried a lot. The sound of the water calmed the mind, so for us this place was a win. Happiness can be found in simple things!
My love for them faded
I have not eaten churros for years after leaving Spain and I didn't really crave them either. Not even when we flew back to Spain and saw them served many times before we went out for churros again. For my daughter it was a sort of first time because she never ate them as we did years ago. I let her try them with chocolate and she loved them, not surprisingly, lol.
I quickly learned that my love for them faded big time because I simply don't enjoy the greasy stuff that much anymore. For most part of my life, I'd go nuts for such snacks or things fried, but without having a fryer at home, not even missing it, I can safely say that I will get much happier from a healthy meal salad or tacos filled with veggies and chicken over fried churros.
A mommy daughter breakfast moment
My daughter specifically requested in the summer holidays to go out with me alone to have breakfast for example. I decided we'd jump in the car and head out for churros as I know it makes her happy. It's really just a few euros to spend to make the kid happy. We picked a not too hot day in the summer and a table inside because outside was all occupied and we preferred the luxury of air conditioning as I believe it was not the hottest morning but still a bit too hot to my liking.
We always order a portion each and chocolate for the lady:
While I order a coffee. Sadly this coffee is the perfect example of how I don't want my coffee. I ordered one in a glass as I always do because they have the perfect proportion coffee/milk, but she forgot. When I received it, I let it slide as it was mainly to dip the churros anyway.
And of course the churros! Although the breakfast is not too much to my own liking nowadays, at least we had a good mommy daughter moment out. After this, we went to the supermarket to get the groceries and back home to hide for the heat, lol.
Do you like churros?
