In 2015 we came to live in Havana, capital of Cuba. But, I could not live this moment because I was working outside the country and two years later was that I began to live fully in this place.
I remember that in my eagerness to visit several facilities that I knew from television I came to a cafeteria that without having great pretensions had conditions of comfort, good service, careful attention and an intimacy that made the delight of everyone who visited it. The first time I arrived I fell in love with it because its name is Café Cubita and, as I expressed in my previous publication that is my favorite coffee.
I tell you that, as part of the work process and because of the vacations I had to enjoy after two years of work, it became necessary for me to go there again and again, and I became an honored guest because of my continuous visits and my references to the service and the quality of the coffee shop.
But, there is always a, but. In October 2017 I started working and could no longer attend on a regular basis there. I remember that my favorite time was at 9 am because that was the time when they opened the cafeteria and I liked to be in that process of preparing the conditions of the day, knowing the offers, seeing the workers in their process of creation and being among the first to take my Cubita coffee with sugar.
After 2017 every time I could I would go to the coffee shop "Café Cubita", but, in all honesty my responsibilities limited me from being able to get there and the visits became less regular. I always try to go, but it is not easy, because it is far from my home and work.
Today, October 14, I returned to this place and I confess that I felt a mixture of nostalgia and joy. The working staff is totally new, the cafeteria is even smaller, there is only one coffee machine left and other services are provided in the cafeteria that were not provided before.
However, not everything was negative with respect to what I had preconceived in my head, because when restoring the premises they had the delicacy to have coffee as the protagonist and, on the walls, on the tables and in the whole space of the premises you realize that you have arrived at a place where coffee has a marked protagonism.
I could not be there at 9 am as I would have liked, but I managed to arrive at 10:17 am and I had to wait because the place was full. When they sent me in I could see that, in addition to coffee, they offer other services and among them is the sale of beer. I couldn't believe it: two drinks that I like come together in a place that brings back so many pleasant memories.
That's what I ordered: a Cubita Americano coffee and a Cerveza Cristal.
The coffee was very good, black, strong and well charged and the young man who served me brought me the sugar so that I could add it to taste. The beer was equally good, but at a diametrically opposite temperature. Some people looked at me puzzled. I knew why, since it is not the first time that I have had it, but as I said in another publication of this community, it is one of the combinations that I like to drink with coffee that I do not know how to explain very well.
Besides tasting both beverages I was fascinated by the doyles that cover each one of the tables of the coffee shop, its walls and the culture that the young people who work there have about coffee.
When you sit on the table you have the different drinks that can be prepared in the coffee shop and their ingredients. Something similar draws the walls of the place that also have other paintings, but all related to this pleasant beverage.
When I left the coffee shop I thought that other mornings, especially on Saturdays and Sundays I must return to this place that gave me so much joy a few years ago and that, despite the change and everything else that I could appreciate is still a place where you can enjoy a rich coffee and socialize about this drink with the attendees of the place.
It has been a very dear visit for me and I will repeat it very soon.
If you made it this far thank you for reading.
