Today, I, Meredith, feel indignant, disappointed, sad and betrayed, which makes all the sense in the world because, how can I not feel that way?, if my roommate for the last two years in college stole a recipe that I have been working on for months and that's not all, she is making a lot of money thanks to it.
I come from a family that produces coffee beans to sell them, that's how we make a living and with a lot of effort and sleepless nights I started to create a coffee cocktail that I thought would be super innovative. My roommate always told me that I was smart for creating something like that, I never suspected anything strange, which makes me feel stupid because I should have done it when Lea (my roommate's name), started asking me a lot of questions about the cocktail and in a strange way two months ago she asked to move to another room with the excuse that the other room had a better location that would help her get to her classes earlier.
Lea is very popular and I'm not, she records videos and gets to advertise products because of it, would anyone believe me if I say she stole my recipe?, because obviously I want to do something about it, that cocktail is my creation, I had planned to pay for my studies and help my family with what I would earn from selling it and to be honest I really didn't think so many people would like it and it saddens me to know that it has become famous and I'm not getting anything for it, it's very unfair.
I have thought about this situation a lot and not gonna lie, I'm a little scared, but I won't stand idly by, today my name won't be Meredith Jean Newman, it will be Karma Justice Newman, because Lea is going to pay for what she did. It's easy to copy something from someone, but the original creator will always know more about his own creation than the person who copied it and luckily, here I am, the original creator of the cocktail and I'm going to do what I have to do and claim what's mine.
Thinking with a cold head I realized that the situation was not so complicated, I had all the chances to win, I was just afraid because everything was unexpected and she was someone well known, but I gave myself a few slaps and meticulously started to plan what I was going to do to expose Lea publicly. I had all the written notes of how I was creating the cocktail and the most important detail, the original cocktail is created especially with my family's coffee beans, which makes it even more delicious than the one Lea is selling.
The day came when I was going to expose Lea publicly, I decided to attack her in her own area, I recorded myself explaining how I felt hurt by Lea's betrayal, showing my writings on how I had made the coffee cocktail and what the secret ingredient was, I also showed in the video how I had in my room all the utensils I used to create the cocktail and finally I ended the video saying that I couldn't believe Lea had done that to me. I uploaded the video to the social platform with the necessary tags to be seen quickly and cause the stir I wanted, but obviously I didn't think that was enough so after 3 hours, I went to the university cafeteria because I knew that at that time Lea and many people would be there.
When I entered the cafeteria everyone was watching me, Lea was there as I thought, she looked at me mockingly but I could see her nervousness, I took courage and told her in front of everyone to explain exactly how she created the coffee cocktail, she with a confident attitude stood up and said exactly what I said in the video, only with other words. What she did not know is that in my video I omitted to say some things regarding the preparation, so when she finished speaking I took out my writings and explained in front of everyone the exact procedure to create the coffee and not only that, I carried with me a recipient with the cocktail prepared by me and I gave it to everyone to taste.
When they tasted my cocktail and listened to my explanation, everyone was surprised and delighted, those present recorded everything and they started to look at Lea in a bad way, which I knew was going to happen, we are in the technological era where everything is recorded and exposed, what she had done and said had been recorded and she could not change it, she could not hide her reaction, she was totally exposed. When Lea saw this she ran out of the cafeteria, she didn't even try to defend herself, it wouldn't make sense if she did, she had no way to do it.
After that day I started selling my cocktail at the university and several companies contacted me to market it professionally. Lea instead of trying to redeem herself, simply disappeared, she didn't even apologize to me. I have heard from a mutual acquaintance that she moved to another country, she hasn't made any more videos so I don't know anything more about her. Honestly, I'm sorry that everything had to happen this way, but she asked for it and we have to defend ourselves. I hope in some way she has learned from her mistake and manages to move forward. As for me, I'm enjoying my well-deserved success.
