It is a day with a beautiful and radiant blue sky, you are ready, the moment has arrived, you will not go out with your best friend as much as before, much less on Saturday nights you will go to the theater and then to drink coffee in the square, for sure you will miss those moments and you have mixed feelings, you are a little sad because many things will change with your best friend but happy because you know he is happy.... How could he not be? Today he is marrying the woman of his dreams.
A beautiful open sky wedding, simple but neat and white as almost all weddings are, you know how excited and nervous your friend is and even though you couldn't get there in time to help him with the last details, hopefully you will arrive before the bride and you can tell him a bad joke to make him laugh and release tension.
Without hesitation, you recognize him while his back is turned, you yourself helped him choose that beautiful white suit that makes him look like a little angel just fallen from heaven.
Stealthily, you sneak up on him, you want to surprise him. A hug from behind would be nice, you imagine a warm and fraternal moment. Like a little monkey you throw yourself on him, hugging him tightly as if you felt you were losing him.
Grabbing someone from behind in an untimely manner has some disadvantages, you don't know what is happening in front of you. You caused his suit to be ruined by a large coffee stain he was drinking to try to calm his nerves and also his favorite mug, given to him by his mother, collapsed on the floor. He turns away without a word but with an expression of wanting to kill you.
You come up with the macabre idea that you wish coffee had never existed. Clumsily you try to wipe the stain with a white handkerchief, knowing that it is a useless effort, but the truth is that you do not know what to do or what to say, your hands shake but not more than your voice, and you stammer "less more it was already lukewarm and you did not burn yourself, I'm sorry". You just wanted the earth to swallow you up, or maybe you wanted to have arrived late or to have waved at the front, like people do.
The huge stain had not only ruined the jacket but also the poplin shirt you helped him pick out, nothing ostentatious but very neat and shiny.
All eyes should be on the bride and groom but they are on you, almost pointing at you as the one to blame for staining a moment that is supposed to be impeccable in every sense of the word. Come on, it's not that bad, even though the groom is not wearing a spare suit, the ceremony will have to be carried out like this.
What an embarrassing situation, how do you think you would feel in a case like this? What would you do? What do you think you would think?
If you have any stories of the worst coffee spills, you still have time to share them.
I just remember years ago when I made myself a big cup of strong coffee with the intention of staying awake in the wee hours of the morning because I needed to study for an exam. That strong coffee made me sleepier than ever and I fell asleep with my head on the desk, I dumped half a cup of coffee in the books and in my hair, I didn't study, I went to sleep with wet hair, I filled the pillow with coffee but neither the smell nor the humidity prevented me from sleeping like a stone.
I woke up with ruined pages and I had not studied them, luckily they were still visible and that was important because in those times it was not very accessible for anyone to look for information on the internet.
I don't think this should be on the list of worst coffee spills ever but I certainly wouldn't want a repeat.
