I used to study Japanese mainly because I love watching anime and listening to Japanese music. However, I'm the type of person who finds it hard to continue studying something for a long time. SO, it was mostly on and off.
Recently, I've been wanting to get back to studying Japanese, but I didn't know how to do it.
I decided to focus on learning Kanji and more vocabulary first and focus on sentence structures once I know more words. I think it would be more effective this way.
I was going through Playstore to find some apps to learn Kanji and I stumbled upon an interesting-looking game.
The game is called Kanji Hero and it includes thousands of kanji characters which are categorized in five different stages.
I just started this morning and the kanji characters in the first stage are common. I think they're arranged in the same way as Japanese students learn their kanji from elementary school.
We have the option to unlock all levels by paying, or you can just watch a video after completing a level to unlock the next one.
When you open a level, you'd see some cards which includes the kanji, hiragana and English translation. You can study them first before the game. Once you press "DONE", the character starts moving towards a treasure chest. However, there are some monsters blocking the way, so you have to defeat them by answering questions.
It's mostly multiple choice, but there are items where you have to spell out the Japanese word in Hiragana. In such case, they either provide the Kanji or the English word.
There's a small book you could see in the lower right corner. Clicking it would lead you to your collected cards.
If you want to skip the previous stages and go directly to a much high one, you can either pay... or start with that stage's first level and work your way up by playing and unlocking the next levels by watching an ad.
I find learning this way more entertaining! I guess, I'd last longer studying this way. And since I remember things by writing them instead of just reading, I also copied the characters from my "Collected Cards" in-game.
I'll try to be consistent this time... maybe a couple levels each day would be enough... I'm not in a hurry to learn anyway. haha
