We had a walk along Cromford Canal to see the newly renovated Aquaduct Cottage. (The above photo is the cottage in it's derelict state). It is a Grade II listed building and was built in 1802 as a lock-keepers cottage by Peter Nightingale, uncle to Florence Nightingale, who was known as the ‘Lady with the Lamp.’ She nursed wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. Apparently, she has stopped over at the cottage. I can remember learning about her at school but I never knew her connection with the cottage until recently.
After a successful Crowdfunder Campaign in 2019 to renovate the cottage, it's looking so much better, especially with the new roof.
I'm so pleased they've managed to renovate it. It's always a shame when buildings are left to go to ruin, especially when they have so much history to them.
