Calling in at Whitworth Park in Matlock, we stumbled across a scooter meet up. The rally was called 'Beat the Bikers' for classic scooter enthusiasts.
It's usually a fairly quiet park but not today. The group called in at various places along the way before their final destination in the park.
I think every scooter in the county was here.
I can remember when I was young, there was always a rivalry between the mods and the rockers. I never really knew why the mods always rode scooters. Apparently, as the mods were all into their fashion (liking all things Italian) and looking good, they thought scooters would be the easiest and cleanest mode of transport to ride and maintain, as opposed to the motorcycle. I think this scooter was my favourite with the 'Live Forever' and Oasis brother's artwork.
I've seen motorcycles and sidecars before but never a scooter and sidecar.
Whether you are a scooter enthusiast or not, it was great to see so many different machines and designs. Everybody was in good spirits, and it was good to know the mods and rockers now have their own meet ups together, as opposed to fighting each other. Overall, it was a good blast from the past!
