The Milan Duomo is an ultimate visual pleasure for all the tourist. When you land in Milan the first thing you want to do is visit the Duomo. It is the most magnificent structure in Milan and I can say one of the world's as well. The Duomo is the most central area of the City and it's buzzing with people round the clock. Opposite to the Duomo is the other famous site of Milan Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The shopping arcade for the rich and the famous.
When we left from our Hotel, our hotel guy advised us that it's better to not sit to eat anywhere near the Duomo area as it would be very expensive. He was right, the restaurants in the central Duomo area were very expensive. The site of Duomo was very impressive and I could see people visit this place from all over the world. Thankfully when I visited all the Covid rules had been lifted so there was no hassle of mask, social distancing and all of that. People were all moving around freely.
The Milan Duomo is considered to be the 3rd largest Cathedral in the World. It has taken 6 centuries to build this Cathedral and when you see the detailing of this place you will have no doubt why so long. The work started in 1386 and happened in bits and pieces till the 20th century, and it is said that it's still not completed there are part of uncarved stones which has to be yet worked upon.
I had read lot about the Duomo and when I had the first sight of it I was really in an awe looking at this magnificent structure.
Look at these beautiful finely carved towers of the Duomo. I visited the roof top and the whole structure has a very artistic touch with geometric patterns.
The part of the steps going up and down the roof top is closed, the terrace area is open and that gives a very good view of the whole structure from the top.
A lot of restoration work is still going on. I guess it's a continuous effort.
After spending good time at the roof top and clicking loads of pictures we came down to the Cathedral.
That's the inside of the Cathedral. It's the Basilica of the Nativity of Saint Mary and is the cathedral church of Milan.
I love this stain glass works that they have in almost all the Cathedrals.
There is a lot of work going on in the inside as well.
Outside of Duomo in the Central area
It's worth visiting this place once in a lifetime. While making this post it brings me back the memories of the time spent in this beautiful place. It was such a pleasure to see this part of the world.
