For this week's #sublimesunday, as inspired by , I paid a visit to a point on the Black River. The wind was howling from the south, but the snow and ice were beautiful as always.
Aside from the wind that took the feeling out of my fingers, the day was actually quite nice. Mid 30Fs temperatures with partly cloudy skies. No clouds of interest, however, as most clouds were opaque and formless.
You can see the ice beginning to form on the river. When the ice gets thick enough, many folks will literally drive their vehicles out on the river, cut a hole in the ice, and fish. Some people even go so far as to bring a shanty with and set it up on the river's ice. I'm not an ice fisherman, but I've been told that it's more about drinking beer than actually catching fish...
I'm more interested in getting photos of that type of activity, however. I'm sure once the next warm spell of winter passes through next week, things will get cold once again and keep the rivers frozen for good. Or through spring, at least.
What's not to love about this time of year? The shadows are long, the hues in the air are dull, and the sun grows older and lower in the sky as we approach the solstice. I must say, I don't like to shovel snow, but I do have a greater appreciation to be able to experience all four seasons in the area of the world I live in.
Dark shadows, ice, and the bleakness of snow. Not a bad #sublimesunday to share!
Thanks for stopping by to take a look at today's photo adventure. Until next weekend...
