For this week's #sublimesunday, as inspired by , I took a hike yesterday at most my favorite spot in the area: the old Mathy quarry site.
I love this area. Despite being only 5 minutes out of a community of about 60,000, this area is quiet and sublime. There are no traffic noises, no railroad noises, and there is plenty of space to find yourself removed from other hikers. It's very peaceful; no wonder the area is rumored to have the fae folk as inhabitants.
The area was partially ruined years ago by all of the mining, but fortunately better minds stepped in and prevented the area from being completely ruined. You can still see the old quarry wall where the miners stopped their progress.
I didn't see any fae, as usual, nor did I hear their music in the air. I did do a bit more exploring on the off trails, however, but with deer hunting season in full effect in Wisconsin, I didn't get too far off the beaten path. I probably should have worn something orange, but I honestly didn't think of it until I heard gunshots in the distance. Hey, it's not as scary as it might sound...
Despite the gunshots in the distance, the hike was still peaceful and dare I say zen-like. The November sun truly brought out some amazing wintry colors all around me.
Easy enough for a #sublimesunday memoir. Hopefully, everyone else had or is in the process of having a wonderful November Sunday too, Until next weekend...
