The former Castle of Spilberg that is a Ruin now, was build as a castle in the 12th century near Linz. Back then it was a castle situated south of the Danube and was used by several different lords of the castle. Due to the Regulation of the danube river to create more resistant controll of the flood that the danube can have from time to time the castle is today situated north of the danube river. Today the former Castle is only a Ruin and a lot parts of the former castle are in a risk of collapsing. In Summer time there are some medieval festivals there and it is a place for outdoor performances of theater and craft festivals.
