Hail to the Hive!
A near miss this morning. I managed to get out of bed and have everything ready to carry onto the roof to capture the sunrise as I want to bet shots before it rises abouve the mountains. But…. I needed to pee so badly and the bathroom was occupied. I did the need a pee dance for a good 10 mins while I waited for the occupant to emerge but nope. I saw the first flcks of bright sunshine hit the leaves of the tree outside and realised the moment had passed. Ahhh bugger.
The occupant emerged and I went to relieve myself and then came out and made coffee a little sad as my morning mission had been scuppered by the urge to pee. I didn’t want to be stuck on the roof needing a piss.
As I drank my coffee I realized there was quite a scattering of cloud cover dissipating the sunlight and I thought to myself ‘ what the hell lets go grab some shots!’ So up the ladder and onto the roof I went.
Within seconds of launching the DJI mini 2 I realised that it was a good move as the light and cloud cover was creating a lovely scene but I wanted to get closer.
I managed over 1.5 km and felt that would suffice as I had a few moments of lost signal.
It’s becoming a lot less stressful doing this from distance the more I do it so I calmly alter the angles and snap away moving to different spots and adjusting the altitude, pivoting around on the spot and generally enjoying myself.
I was expecting the sun to bet stronger faster than it did and this meant I had the entire duration of the battery life to do all I wanted and then turn around and buzz back to the roof.
Perfect timing as well as it can get pretty hot up here.
I am determined to get those pre sunrise shots though so will try again tomorrow and factor in the bathroom into the equation next time.
Wasn’t a wasted flight though, not at all.
