I would like to join this contest initiative to present one of the photos I took almost by accident as dawn broke in the mountains.
I took this image in the mountainous region called El Escambray, in the center of the island of Cuba. Specifically, in the part of El Escambray that belongs to the municipality of Fomento, in the province of Sancti Spiritus.
I clarify this, in case you want to know, because this mountain range (the most beautiful hills in Cuba) corresponds to the three provinces that were formerly called Las Villas and are now Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, and Sancti Spiritus.
We're accustomed to hiking whenever we can. El Husillo-Piedra Gorda is one of the easiest trails you can reach from the town of Fomento, about 3 kilometers away.
The ascent is almost entirely pleasant, and at the top, the views are spectacular, almost in one direction for miles.
On this occasion, my 10-year-old daughter and I hiked the Isabelle Lucía Trail. We camped with our tent in a convenient spot, almost at the summit, and were there for three magnificent days.
This place is so magical and accessible for the whole family that we've climbed it five times since my daughter was able to. I remember our first sunrise next to El Husillo, when my daughter excitedly said to me: "Daddy, we're walking above the clouds..."

Deseo unirme a la Iniciativa de este concurso para presentarles una de las fotos que tomé casi por accidente mientras amanecía en las montañas.
Esta imagen la tomé en la región montañosa llamada El Escambray, en el centro de la isla de Cuba. Específicamente, en la parte de El Escambray que pertenece al municipio de Fomento, en la provincia Sancti Spiritus.
Aclaro esto, por si desean saber, porque este conjunto montañoso (las lomas más bellas de Cuba), corresponde a las tres provincias que antes se llamaban Las Villas y que ahora son Cienfuegos, Villa Clara y Sancti Spiritus.
Tenemos costumbre de hacer Senderismo cada vez que podamos. El Husillo-Piedra Gorda es un Sendero de lo más fácil que al que se le llega desde el pueblo de Fomento, a unos 3 kilómetros.
El ascenso es casi agradable en su totalidad y en la cima, las vistas son espectaculares y por muchos kilómetros casi en redondo.
En esta ocasión, hicimos el Sendero Isabelle Lucía (mi niña de 10 años) y yo. Acampamos con nuestra carpa en un espacio favorable, casi en la cima y estuvimos allí por tres magníficos días.
Este sitio es tan mágico y accesible para toda la familia, que lo hemos escalado cinco veces desde que mi hija puede hacerlo. Recuerdo nuestro primer amanecer junto a El Husillo, cuando mi niña, entusiasmada me decía: papá, caminamos por encima de las nubes…
