Making non-permanent cages for cows and goats
Today I made a non-permanent cage for cows and goats. Before Iedul Adha the goats and cows will be put in a non-permanent cage near the slaughtering area. The cage was made of bamboo.
There will be 13 goats and 2 cows in this Iedul Adha. All the goats and cows are offerings from the community here. A cow is worth 21 million rupiah and a goat is worth 3 million rupiah. The total value of the offering is 81 million Rupiah, or $5,500.
All the meat will be distributed to 250 families. A family will get around 2 kg of meat with the bones. A cow represents seven people, and a goat represents one person. So , the people who give an offering are 27 people.
Iedul Adha offering has social care meaning to the community. The meat will give protein to all the people here. Not all people eat fresh beef and lamb every day. Only rich people can afford to buy beef and lamb. The price of a kilo of beef is around IDR 120,000, or $8. It is not affordable for low-income families. People tend to buy chicken meat. Chicken meat is only IDR 30,000, or $2 a kilo.
Offering is also a form of surrender to the Almighty God. The offering practice follows Abraham’s deed when Allah asked him to give his son as the offering. Finally, Allah changed the offering to a sheep. The deed is followed by all Muslims around the world as the offering in Iedul Adha.
