There are a lot of things that make life interesting to live. I can't imagine life if all these things are not in place. Death, hope, trust, truth, lies, betrayals, love, hate, happiness and sadness. All of these are the basics of life.
We live in a strange world where we get to listen to what people say, believe in them and live our lives towards that direction. There are times when we question our thoughts and think otherwise about something. We might even have to choose a different path. But all in all we still have our lives to live.
I remember a time when we were younger. I don't know why dad has always hated lies. It's like something that irritates him and he can go to any extent to make sure he stops anyone who embraced it.
There was a day we got food from our neighbour celebrating their kid’s birthday. So we had to keep the food at home and return the dishes they brought the food with.
After turning the food. Then I had to wash the dishes. So before washing I licked the oil remaining on the plate and then washed and returned it.
As kids, I wasn't wise enough to have cleaned the leftover oil on my lips. I never knew it was there till dad arrived from his workplace. We hurriedly told him about the food that was brought for us. Then he asked me if i tasted the food. I denied. Saying I never had a taste of food.
He asked repeatedly, and also confirmed from my brothers, but they kept mute. I was still yet to get the reason why he kept asking me an and again. Then after the fifth time he asked why? But I have oily lips if I never tasted the food. That was the moment i knew i messed up.
He flogged the hell outta me that day. No one came to my rescue. He told me never ever to lie again in my life and I learnt my lesson. I promised never to lie again since then. I tried to always tell the truth even if it would cost my life.
But as time went on, we began to age. I realized that even dad at some point do lie. 😂. There are times when an unexpected visitor would come asking for him. Then he would tell us to tell them that he is not around.
At first we found it strange without knowing the reason why dad would keep lying to people. But we finally got to understand that there are some lies that you just have to tell to bring peace.
I remember the first times we all messed up with dad’s words. It was a day when we were to go for Islamic studies. We were told to bring our parents for a parent teacher meeting. But dad and mom weren't given a chance to show up that day. Then they asked us to tell them in the school that our parents are not at home.
“No one is at home '' tell your proprietor chat and you guys will be free. Then when we are at school, kids with their small brains. We are asked about our parents as expected. Then we had to respond
While trying to answer we both ran our mouths and said “Sir Dad said we should tell you that He is not at home. The proprietor smoked and made a call to dad. I don’t remember where their conversation went but that day was one day I learnt that there are also files when one can tell lies to save others.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in hive learners community for the Week 120 Edition 2 and the topic to be discussed is THE GOOD LIE
