I remembered when my English teacher uttered the statement that “Education is the bedrock of all nations”.
I sat back to think about it, if truly education is the bedrock then why are there so many graduates out there unemployed? Why is it so hard to gain admission into the higher institutions, and if care is not taken you might end up working under the uneducated ones?
But at another insight, the highest percentage of the population that is poor and hardly make a living are the uneducated ones. So is education that much important?.
I would also ask myself another question. What if everyone in the world were educated? What would the world look like? Would education remain valuable?
This would bring me to the topic of discussion for today, IS EDUCATION A SCAM OR NOT? and this would be my participation in the hive learner's weekly contest for week 15 episode 3.

What is education?
Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs, habits, and personal development. Education originated as the transmission of cultural heritage from one generation to the next.

As defined by Wikipedia, we realize that education is not limited to going to school alone and also attending higher institutions. Being educated goes beyond schooling alone but the ability to learn morals, and improve one's values. Education is about acquiring knowledge and knowing the basics of development.
This is why you might be a graduate but not educated. Not all graduates are educated. Meanwhile, you might not get to the four walls of the university or even acquire literacy skills but remain educated.
Passing through the college and institutions is necessary to be educated, but being able to prove and possess what was being impacted in the college to real-life situations is what we call education.
Now knowing the true value of being educated would tell whether you would become a successor in your field or not. Being educated would tell if you can see opportunities or just ignore them.
For example, I might be a tailor who learned the ways of fashion from a veteran tailor. After acquiring such skills then I was able to establish myself and upgrade myself from the way I learned from my veteran as an apprentice to become a well-recognized fashionista. Then I would say such a person is educated.
Being literate or illiterate is entirely different from being educated. A whole nation still has to rely on education to keep the generations growing as time passes by. This is why most cultural practices which have been in existence since time immemorial are still practiced up to date. This is a result of education.
Education to me is so vital to our individual lives and so important to our existence as humans.
