Good day to you all my tutors and learners here on Hive.
Food is essential in human life, and how can one do without eating food in this life?
But here is the issue and that's the fact that food comes in different forms even though we all have to eat, at times we just have to eat whatever comes our way, and there are times when we just have to satisfy our cravings. But all in all, what we eat is directly proportional to our financial capabilities.
So this is why we just have to eat some food that is of low quality based on what we can afford at the moment. I remember sometimes when I was in school with my brother. I never knew school life was different from the one I have been living at home. At home, I can eat what I like when I like. But things changed when I got to school. I began to eat whatever I saw even when I didn't like them.
There was a day when my brother got our feeding allowances and then we had to find something to eat. He asked me to go and prepare noodles and spice them with a lot of ingredients, then we bought sardines and eggs. It was a nice time for my stomach then. Then a few days after we had already spent our allowance, he asked me to get a paint bucket of Garri (Cassava flakes), this is what we soaked in water and ate for days again till another money showed up.
The cheapest.
Gone are the days when our naira notes had some value and when we were able to buy what we needed with just a small amount of money. I remember back then if I handed 50 naira to myself I would be able to buy something to eat at least it would either suffice for lunch or dinner.
One of the cheapest foods I can remember I have bought is this same โGarriโ. The food so much suffered in my hands ๐. With 50 naira I can buy Garri two cups for 20 naira, then buy sugar 5 naira, and groundnut 5 naira, As low as 30 naira I am good to go. But when I decide to enjoy my life to the fullest I will double the price of all I bought. In recent times it is so surprising that even the garri which was one of the cheapest foods then is now in competition with beans and rice which were valuable food then. And life goes on.
The most expensive.
The tale behind the most expensive food I bought is somehow funny, but I counted it as a great experience. This was a day when my friend asked us to explore the city. At least we should take some of our time indoors and spend it outdoors. So we decided to go to a mall. After several fun times and games, we were hungry and then went to a restaurant located in the mall. We got in and went straight to the food desk. Wow. These are different categories of food. Make your choice.
Out of curiosity, I saw some kind of long rice (Basmati Rice) and not spaghetti. I wanted to have a taste of it. I pointed towards it and made an order. I also pointed to a big chicken wing. I wondered how a chicken wing would be that big. Then I asked for some spaghetti too.
After everything was packed I was given a bill of all I bought. I just had to stare at my friend and ask if I should run away or not. The bill was way beyond my expectations. I was billed 15,000 naira for the plate of Basmati rice and the chicken. I realized what I pointed out was a turkey. I had to pay my bills so as not to disgrace myself. Then went back home and resumed taking my cheapest food again. Life goes on.
This is my response to the prompt for week 90 edition 1 on the hive learners community and the topic to be discussed is CHEAP OR EXPENSIVE.
