Health Is Wealth
Our health is important, just like every other aspect of our existence. Only if you see how those who are deficient in good health are struggling and praying for good health will you know how important good health is.
I remember writing a post about how worse the medical system of the country is, both the private and public sectors have been having it hard to deliver their services to the public. So this is one reason why there is always fear in some people to pay a visit to the hospital or clinic for checkups.
Apart from the failed services from the health sector, poverty is another great battle that’s hindering people from going for regular checkups. Someone who hasn’t gotten a square meal a day. For someone who is still struggling to bring food to his table, how do we expect such a person to find time for their health?
They would rather divert such money for feeding instead of checkups. Another fear is that they can’t predict what the outcome of the check-up will be. The fear of uncertainty is one big problem why people don't want to go for a check-up.
For instance, someone who is positive for a grave disease will surely continue to remain happy without knowing what’s wrong with them. Not until it knocks them down. But they would prefer it that way than knowing that they are diagnosed with that disease and have to live with it.
The wealthy ones can still battle it through, what to say about the poor and less privileged? It's even possible that the diagnosis is what will be the cause of their death in the end.
There was a time when I was with one of my bosses. I never knew he was so sick within himself. We had conversations the day before and the next day he was sick. He couldn’t say exactly what was the cause of his sudden sickness.
His wife who is a nurse quickly ran a test on him and administered some injections for him. Immediately after he received the injections he slept for hours and after that, he regained his health. He told me if not for the money he had on him to afford the costly injection, his life might have gone.
Mandatory checks
Regular check-ups surely have their own advantage for sure, and this would ensure the health status of each individual. It would surely be a good thing if the government could impose a mandatory check but not only the check important but also the medication and follow-up after the check has been conducted.
No one would go against any mandatory check-up. However, the fear of knowing the result and not being capable of funding the medical bill and medications and recommendations is what should be avoided by all means.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in hive learners community for the Week 156 Edition 2 and the topic to be discussed is COMPULSORY CHECK UPS
