Good day to you all my tutors and learners here on hive.
Today is surely another beautiful day on the earth's surface. All praises and adoration be to the source that created life and all in it. Today is another Friday again and guess what? Yay! The weekend is surely fast approaching and we would have some rest and spend time with our friends and family again.
There are times we go off work, it might come as leaves, work permits, vacation, and many more. But the core focus of these free days is to spend time on ourselves, relax and make memories. There is this saying that “all work and no play make Jack a dull boy”.
Even as students we are given a break to spend just to cool our brain, and see another environment entirely which is different from the daily trend of waking up all day and getting prepared for school, then from school back home again.
Vacations and holidays are always amazing but that’s if it is well spent, they might turn out to be boring and tiresome when we make the wrong choice.
This would drive me towards the topic for discussion on the hive learners community for week 25 edition 3 which is titled BEST AND WORST HOLIDAYS
MY EXPERIENCE.
It’s been a long time since I have been hearing tales of the Olumo rock from my mum. Most times she would sit us down and narrate her experience climbing the rock, and how tall it was, she said the rock has a height that if anyone gets to the top then they would be able to take a glance at the whole city of Abeokuta.
There are times when I would have to dream about going to spend my time climbing this mysterious rock. I wonder how it would be. The worst part of it was when my friends and I were having chitchat on tourism. Everyone talked about amazing places in their town and cities which they had visited. I would have talked about the Olumo rock 🪨 but I’ve never been there before.
There was a day we got a break from school then Mum decided we should go and spend it with our uncle who resides in Abeokuta. I was so happy because I would be opportune to see this rock. Days passed by but nothing came up. I told my mum I would like to visit the rock but she never gave us the chance till we left his place back home. Maybe because we were much younger than I thought.
It became one of the worst holidays I ever had. All because I had the opportunity to make my dreams come true but I couldn’t move a step towards accomplishing it.
About four years ago we went to visit him again and this time around I was so determined to make sure I got to the rock. It’s been close to a decade since I have been wishing to get to this rock. This time around I am certain I would accomplish it because we are now grown up and can take decisions on our own. I told my sister about it and she agreed to tag along.

We told mum we would be heading for the rock then my uncle added, “it has become nicer than before”. They gave us directions and we went to pay a visit. I was opportune to get to the top of the rock climbing the staircase which was not there at the time my mum visited. There is also the presence of a lift but wasn’t functioning properly so the staircase was our only option. It was fun hearing tales about how the people of Abeokuta city used the rock as a shield against attacks from warriors and invaders.
My accomplishments made the holiday one of the best I ever had. It’s a moment of dreams coming to reality…
MORALS
I learned to be patient with everything in life because the perfect timing would surely come and also never think of giving up no matter what. It might take a longer time than expected or even take a lot of sacrifices but one day you would surely accomplish them in as much as you never remain stagnant.
