The world is experiencing a great revolution with the advent of technology. The education system has been positively affected, thereby making learning and teaching easier for students and teachers.
Theory and memorization are no longer necessary because skill development and problem-solving abilities are being emphasized more. The following are some effects of technology on the education industry.
Students can now access educational resources and materials from anywhere at any time due to technology. They make use of their smartphones, PC and Ipad, which have completely changed the way we think about education. As online learning platforms and virtual classrooms have grown in popularity, students can now enrol in courses and communicate with their teachers and classmates.
How Technology Has Influenced
My Education
When I was an undergraduate student, I made use of my PC to solve a lot of assignments and did research online. Although many people did not have access to the internet throughout my undergraduate years.
The digital library at our school at that time was under-equipped because many individuals cannot afford to purchase cell phones and PCs. However, they are now highly sophisticated, and students are taking advantage of the free internet connection.
In my department, the Head of the Department makes it compulsory for everyone to have a PC, or else you will fail some important courses. There were two particular courses named 'Strength of Materials and Structural design. If you don't have a PC, you can't attend lectures on these courses.
Everyone was forced to use all available resources to acquire a PC; those who cannot afford one borrowed from their friends in other departments.
I was able to acquire some skills in auto card design(which is used for house design) during this time, which helped me after I graduated.
While I was waiting for my National Youth Service year then, I was making a little cash on the auto card designs. Only a few people can make use of the software at that time. I made some cash on the software and I have some clients that paid extra cash so that I can deliver their work within a few hours and the job would be completed.
Making money would have been challenging for me back then, supposing there had not been the introduction of technology, as it is difficult for a recent graduate to find a suitable job in the engineering field. Even if you have many years of experience, just a few engineering fields will compensate you well.
They prefer to employ you and motivate you to work hard so that you can eventually be your own boss in the future.
Although the experience is very important, but young grads ought to have some takeaways.
Did Technology Also Cause
Distraction?
Social media caused a lot of distractions for me during my undergraduate days. The trending ones then are Facebook, Youtube, 2go, Eksimi etc.
Facebook and 2go caused a lot of distraction for me, I spent a lot of hours chatting on 2go.
Even in the classroom, I will be on 2go and Facebook interface. This reduced my reading hours drastically and I couldn't read unlike before.
My sleeping hours were reduced, and I became lean because I have been addicted to those platforms.
I became ill in April 2010 as a result of my insufficient sleep, the doctor treated me and advised me to have more time to rest. That was the reason my parents were strict with me that I should stop online chatting and focus on my health and education. I now diverted my attention to my AutoCAD learning.
I would have been completely distracted if blockchain technology and digital marketing had been popular back then. Making nice money while studying is something I don't think I can handle. I won't be able to finish with high marks.
Some students are now using technology to make some money by tutoring online or assisting students with their assignments.
Some people make content, and many students have dropped out of school because they can no longer handle schooling.
They have been working hard and earning money online.
Thus, technology distracts students. Some students are so lazy these days that they complete everything online. If there is no strict supervision, some students use smartphones in the exam room and for their CA.
Future Of Technology In Education
Future education is anticipated to include online and offline instruction. This method is called ee-learning
It combines the best aspects of both online and offline, giving students the freedom to learn at their own pace while also giving them the chance to connect in person with their instructors and peers. This has already been happening and It's fantastic.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: There are a lot of AIs that are available right now and more will come out in future. Some AI can do assignments within a short time, some can draw artwork and so on.
These two fields are going to become more and more significant in education. These tools can be used to personalize learning experiences and evaluate student data to spot problem areas.
Online Learning: More people are using mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and even PCs to learn online.
The 2020 pandemic has exposed a lot of people to online learning. I was also included. I have completed a lot of courses online.
Online education is already a well-liked method of obtaining a degree, and this development is expected to continue. Students now have access to learning materials from anywhere at any time, due to technology.
Technology has transformed education, giving both students and teachers new chances to advance their knowledge and skills. However, technology cannot completely replace traditional learning methods since many rural communities lack access to technology.
Additionally, some people lack the funds to purchase technology services like computers, internet access, etc.
