Taking breaks is of immense importance in order to keep us energized for our work. If we continue working without breaks, we not only get tired but also lack a lot of creativity and interest. Being involved in work for long acts like discharging batteries; we no longer have enough stamina to carry on our activities in the best way. The break is akin to recharging a battery; new power is added to our bodies and spirit. To avoid breaking ourselves by the routine, we need to take breaks. šFor this purpose holidays are crucial to keep us sane and optimized.
Holidays do not necessarily mean to take long rest, sleeping or doing nothing. Instead, holidays are a way to bring change in our day to day lives. During holidays we get a chance to pause the circle of activities moving with day and night, and shift our focus to other things surrounding the circle. While there are people who desire for holidays to merely take rest and do nothing but recreational activities like picnic and parties, I am not the one. Spending a couple of days doing nothing useful makes me anxious. Holidays have always been an opportunity for me to accomplish tasks that are not likely to accomplish during working days.
During my academic years, I utilized my holidays organizing my cupboards and bookshelves. I love cleaning and organising since always. After being done with my personal goods, I moved to clean and rearrange house in general. Kitchen and drawing room had always been on the top of the list. During longer holidays like summer vacations, I spent sometime in creative stuff like arts and crafts, painting and sketching. Besides, there is something that couldnāt be expelled out of list of activities and that is reading some story books. Either I borrowed some book from a friend or would collect some magazines and digests. Often times, I would arrange weekly magazines by their serial number and then read the episodic novels published in them.
When I was younger, I waited for summer vacations because during those vacations we went to our grandma's house in another city. There our cousins, uncles and aunts would gather. Travelling by train and enjoying with extended family in another city used to be quite an exciting experience.
Despite having reasons to utilize and enjoy vacations, I hardly disliked getting back to work. Staying away from academic institutes gave a feeling of something missing. Well, holidays as a student had different meaning. Now, after opting to be a house wife and a stay at home mother, there is nothing like official holiday for me but of my family that makes a difference. When my kids have longer holidays, there is a kind of freedom. I donāt need to get up that early for preparing them for school, their lunch boxes and breakfast. Also, there is no stress for getting to bed early. Nevertheless, these are the very reasons I want the holidays to be over soon. Why?? Because getting up earlier makes my day longer and so I accomplish more tasks that gives me satisfaction. Moreover, because of kids being around all the time, I cannot do anything with concentration. Sleeping, napping, waking up and meal times are all disturbed. All this not only makes me feel short of time but also more tired than usual. Thatās why I am happy when the holidays are over. Though it increases my responsibilities and I need to fasten up tightly with clock yet the associated benefits are worth it.
