Tradition of the Acehnese people during the children's land descent

Peutron Aneuk (down the ground) is an Acehnese tradition that is part of a series of ceremonies to welcome the birth of a child. This tradition is generally interpreted as the community's habit of bringing children down to the ground which is carried out after the Peucicap Tradition.

This descent is a ceremony to introduce a baby for the first time to the wider community, both in the environment itself, such as relatives (family) and the outside community. The implementation of this tradition is usually accompanied by swinging while holding a marhaban event and at the same time giving a name.

Children who have reached the age of 44 days are lowered into the yard by someone who is respected both in character and character. That person was already wanted by the baby's parents with the aim that the child would later follow in that person's footsteps. The person who is carrying is wearing beautiful clothes.

The baby is lowered under the umbrella of a batik carved sling and the child's feet are stepped on the ground. Above the child's head, a coconut is split open with a white cloth held by four people with the aim that the baby is not afraid of the sound of lightning.

The time for the implementation of the tradition of descending the land in the Acehnese people is not always the same. Gayo people usually perform this ritual when the baby is 7 days old, which coincides with the hair-shaving ceremony, giving the name and the essence. As for the Anuek Jamee community, this ceremony is carried out when the baby is 44 days old accompanied by a haircut, giving a name, sometimes accompanied by a gift ceremony. Likewise in Tamiang and other Acehnese people.

In the past there were times when the descent was carried out after the baby was one to two years old, especially if the baby was the first child. Because the first child usually has a bigger ceremony. Various traditional ceremonies found in the Acehnese ethnicity, their implementation is always influenced or accompanied by Islamic religious values. The same is the case with the Peutron Aneuk ceremony for the Acehnese.

The Islamic religion adopted does not even make the Acehnese people fanatical and even justifies the continuation of local traditions but will always be guided by Islamic teachings. Although these traditions are still always carried out by the community, in practice there have been many changes in accordance with changes in society from the past until now.
