I love holidays so much, especially this Christmas holiday. It's my best season of the year.
While I was much younger, it was about getting gifts, eating, drinking and enjoying myself.
As a child, growing up in an environment like mine, Christmas day fun is second to none. We find it difficult to sleep on Christmas Eve, thinking about our new dress, gifts, the different delicacies our parents will prepare and dishes our neighbors will bring to us.
In the morning, we help our parents to take food to our neighbors and friends in the community. When we take the food to them, they inturn give us money for bringing it.
We love to do this so much just because of what we get.
After that, I and my friend would dress up in our Christmas dresses and start visiting family and friends. They will either give us money, drinks, turkey, or food. Some would give us all of these items.
Our bags are always full in the evening when returning home.
This was our usual practice and we usually make a lot of money during this season especially from family members visiting from Lagos.
As I grew older and wiser, I realized it's still a my best season but not just about eating and drinking but about love, sacrifice, family and so much more.
I'm a teacher and I'm going to have at least, two weeks break for the Christmas holiday. My plans are in parts and I have plan A and B.
The first one is that I would travel to celebrate Christmas with my parents and my siblings are also going to be around. This is an opportunity to see my warrior mum.
I call her that because she is a fighter. She fought and defeated cancer few months ago. I'm so eager to see her and celebrate Thanksgiving with her.
I love to be around them because they pamper me. They give me time to relax and not stress over anything. They take care of my children for me so I can enjoy my holiday without worrying about the kids or food or anything else.
The other part is that I want to celebrate the new year with my husband and in-laws. I haven't seen them for about two years now, so I plan to go with my husband and children to celebrate the New year with them.
I love them and want to be around them but I need rest. When I'm with them, I get to do all the chores which is more than what I do at home. So, I want to be with them but for just two days. But I will leave the kids with them. They are always happy to be with their grandparents.
The remaining part of my holiday is to be spent with my husband. Just the two of us until work start for 2024.
