Civilization is an advanced state of human society, in which a high level of culture, science, industry,
and government has been reached.(dictionary.com)
Civilization has brought a lot of things to us both the good and the bad. It has been a major blessing and it has brought tremendous change to our way of life.
The one thing I'm grateful to civilization for is the aspect of science and technology.
The smart phones to be specific. At times I still imagine life without a smart phone. How will some things be possible. I imagine how difficult life would be without it. Fine, people will cope but the easy access we get to the internet makes life easier and more interesting.

Imagine the days of letters. I still remembered then, anytime my mum receives letters from her sisters and friends. Whenever someone was coming to Lagos from Oyo, the person may not even be coming directly to Lagos but will send the letters through someone else just to get the letters to Lagos. All her siblings will write stating there request including her friends. Because she was the one in the city then.
She would read her letters✉️ happily in the room in Yoruba language. We would sit with her amazed as she reads aloud. She got the news of her dad's death after her dad had been buried. Apart from her dad's death, the fact that she didn't get the information until after he had been buried pained her more.

So, why would I not be grateful for the smart phone that connect me with whomever I want to anywhere in the world.
I can get news as fast as it's happening anywhere in the world.
I can reach out to millions of people all over the world to showcase my products and services.
I can see and talk about countries I've never been to as a result of the information I get on the internet.
I attend meetings with members all around the world without being physically present with the help of apps like zoom, google meet, Microsoft teams and the likes.
I can apply for courses, take classes, and get my certificate in the comfort of my home.
All these with the aid of a smart phone.
I teach my students better with the aid of the smart phone and internet because I make more research for better ways students can learn and understand particular topics. It's possible for all of us to be on Hive today, thanks to civilization for internet and smart phone🤳

With all I've said about the good civilization has brought, there is the issue of indecent dressing that breaks my heart whenever I see young girls and boys dress indecently.
These indecent dressing came about as a result of civilization.
The African culture does not encourage this. It started as a result of the western culture that we came in contact with through the use of the internet.
The boys sag their trousers and the ladies wear revealing clothes. The dresses are usually too short or the tops are revealing parts of their breast. Some of them dress almost naked to make videos on TikTok.
A parent came to the school last week with her daughter to make enquires. You need to see what the daughter was putting on. Her top covers what she called her short. It was so short just like underwear 🩲 my colleague accused the mum of putting on a decent dress and allowing the daughter to put on such indecent clothing. She was ashamed and asked us to please talk to the daughter that she no longer listens to her. I felt disappointed in the woman.
I try to correct those I can talk to by letting them know the effect of what they are doing.
This is my response to Hive learners community weekly featured contents on the topic: pro and con of civilization.
