Hello everyone, you're welcome to my blog today.
Privacy means keeping our personal matters to ourselves, things we don’t want people to know, even things we hide from our family. But now, trading our privacy just to be protected means giving them control over our lives. That means when we eat, sleep, walk, talk, or even do the smallest things, the government will know everything because they will be monitoring our lives and movements.
Considering the fact that I am in a country where the rate of terrorism has now become so high and everywhere seems to be unsafe. One moment, there is peace and the next minute, the whole atmosphere is filled with news of killings, harming harmless citizens and the likes. The citizens are crying to the government every day for absolute security to reduce the rate of terrorism to its lowest minimal rate. Governments don’t really care about every individual life the way we think. There are too many people, too many problems. So trading something as personal as privacy for something uncertain like “guaranteed safety” doesn’t sit right with me.
Especially when you are not a criminal or doing anything wrong, why should you live like you’re constantly being watched? Another thing is trust. Once you give that level of access, there is no going back. They monitor your calls, track your movements, know what you eat, where you go, and even what you say in your private space. That kind of control can easily be abused. What if the same system meant to “protect” you is later used against you? What if your information is misused? These are real concerns. In this kind of situation, getting an offer where you could actually sleep with all eyes closed, not panicking at the sound of anything sounding like a gunshot because you're sure it is for the security personnel and not bandits or terrorists, or having every move been monitored and you are sure that nothing could actually happen to you unnoticed or with no clue to how you would be saved because the government has it all in the tip of their fingers is such a sweet offer and deal to sign up for. But then, my privacy is at stake and in this kind of system that I am in as a country, is it worth it?
The government is not the reason why citizens are living safe as they are, it is even the main cause why citizens' lives are at risk. Everyone living their lives like tomorrow may never happen. There are situations where crimes even happen close to where police stations are and even before the security personnel would arrive to intervene as close as they are to the crime scene, the criminals would have left and almost reached their hideouts before the policemen would show up.
Security is also very important. We all wish to live in a place where we don’t have to constantly worry about danger. We all want to be protected. If giving up some level of privacy could reduce crime, prevent attacks, or help the government respond quickly to threats, then it might seem like a good idea. If we ask many people, they will say that safety comes first because without life, privacy does not even matter at all.
One of the fundamental duties of the government is the protection of life and properties. This is why most of the security apparatus is managed by the state (i.e., government) with the few ones run by private entities being regulated by the government. In addition, the citizens also have a part to play as the government alone can't do it all. For example, individuals can help in intelligence gathering, providing relevant security tips to the appropriate authorities and bodies. Security is all-encompassing and should be treated as such.
This is where I will drop my pen for this prompt.
