As an average student who is neither on the brilliant side nor on the dullard side of school, Mondays are always my hated days in school then. Having to wake on monday morning after the Sunday stress has always been difficult for me and I'm pretty sure it is for most people too.
I wasn't opportune to attend a private school but I'm fortunate to attend a public (government) school, where hardworks pays and the punishment is always immense.
I have always been one of those that don't take school seriously but I never knew what the outcome would become. I was one of those chronic late comers and i enjoy running into the class while hiding.
I was in ss1 ( senior secondary class one) when this happened, it was the term and very close to the final exam for that class, this exam is what will determine if you would be promoted to the next class or not. Like I said I wasn't serious at all and I was quite positive I would pass my exam with last minute reading.
The day of the exam drew very close and all I did was to gist with my friends during break, play at home and just eat. I was also this type that would read at the last minute and still pass but not with flying colors, just a grade that is quite good and won't be considered failed.
Finally the day came and we started our papers, I was in art class and honestly mathematics was one difficult subject for me but somehow I always scale through, sometimes with help from a friend or just a seat mate.
This particular day was for mathematics exam which happen to be the last paper for the term, I didn't read anything but I was somehow hoping I would solve some and then rely on my friend to help me with the others. The invigilator came in and immediately he asked everyone to switch seat with a different person entirely.
I was surprised because it hasn't happened since we started writing our papers and this changed my while plans for the exam, I sat with someone I wasn't even in good terms with. The papers were shared to us and it was time to start writing, honestly i couldnt think of the best way to write my answers, every equations I was trying to solve wasn't giving me a good answer.
I started sweating profusely, mathematics was one of the most important subject to help one pass any exam in high school. Suddenly I remember I use to have a key point for mathematics, a key point is a small booklet that has questions and answers on different subjects, i quietly search my bag and i found it.
I started opening it while watching to avoid been caught, i was able to get a few clue and i stared solving, but then I wasn't too lucky and eventually I got caught. I remembered been used as a bad example that day because the invigilator came straight to my seat and She slapped me and also collected my paper and torn it in front of the whole class. I couldn't believe my eyes, I begged her to allow me start afresh but she refused and sent me out of the class.
I was so devasted, this was a very important paper and not writing it means I was absent for it and this means zero mark for me. I pleaded but all my pleading fell on deaf ears. I couldn't report to anyone because it means I would be punished for exam "MALPRACTICE". I left with shame and tears.
When the result came out, I couldnt find my name on the list of promoted students and this brought more years to my eyes, I went to school with my mum hoping she would help me plead with the teachers, she did but they said it has already been done and there is nothing they could do. My parents weren't that buoyant to change my school immediately so I had no options that to repeat the same class.
I repeated ss1 class and this taught me a big lesson, i decided to change a new leaf, i became very serious in class and eventually in first term I became best students of the class and also a class captain. I was always ashamed whenever I see my friends in other classes but then it has happened and I had to move on.
My negligence cost me a whole year, which was really sad for me. I wasn't the only person that failed though but I was really hurt by that. I felt I used my own hand to bring that failure to me.
After that I later wrote my final year exam and honestly I came out in flying colors even more than some my friends.
Thanks alot for reading 💕 💕 💕
