Hello everyone, how are you doing on this beautiful day? Another day is here again, the middle of the week and we are grinding hard towards its end so that we can finally kick back and relax a little.
And as usual, there is a holiday I would love to share with you seeing just how important it is to us. Even though most of us are not users but we might know someone who does use it, and hence this day is for everyone to observe. On this day, the 9th of March, we are observing the National No Smoking Day.
The name of the holiday says it all, I do not think there is a need to lay major emphasis on it. But I will talk a little about it. Just a little.
The National No Smoking Day was designed to reach out to smokers. This was because after some major studies and research had been conducted, it could be seen that tobacco could be linked as a cause of cancer. When other studies confirmed this, it was realized that something had to be done to prevent people from literally smoking their lives away.
This is important, especially for those who are suffering from nicotine addiction, those that cannot do without a cigarette stick a day. The more you smoke, the more your health dwindles. Smoking has been known to be the cause of major diseases of the organs. And if it is not the direct cause, it could also be the indirect cause.
And this is not only for the actual smokers, second-hand smokers can also be affected just as well. Second-hand smokers are those who do not actually smoke the cigarette but they breathe in the smoke from the burning end of the cigarette and the ones that the actual smokers breathe out. and this is just as dangerous as well seeing as first of all it is harmful to the human body.
And the truth of this matter sad thing is that the second-hand smokers are those who are around you, children, friends, neighbors. These are people whose health is put at risk because of the choices of one person.
Although, over the years, studies have shown that smoking has become less and less popular as more and more people are being exposed to its dangers. And especially as the warning is placed on the body of the cigarette, that is to remind them that for every stick they smoke, a portion of their life goes away.
This is no easy news, but I just felt it had to be said. Smoking has done more harm than good because it affects not just you but those around you who will breathe the same air as you.
I guess that is why initially the National No Smoking Day was placed on Ash Wednesday, signaling that smoking would be a good thing to refrain from during the Lenten period. But later on, over the years, it has now been shifted to a week after Ash Wednesday. And it could not have been better.
And so, on this somber day, I urge you all to try your utmost best. If you are a smoker and you find yourself addicted to it, you need to try and stop. It is bad for your health. If you feel you can’t do it alone, you could see a therapist or get someone you can trust who will help you through the process. It won’t be easy, but I can let you know that it is not impossible.
And for those who live around smokers, you all are being affected as well. If it is a family member, you need to try and help the person change, letting them know that such acts are bad for them. And if this is a neighbor or friend, you can try helping them as well but if this is not working then you have to stay as far away from them as possible. We are talking about your health here.
We will fight this battle step by step, eventually, there will be no disease or death that will be caused by smoking ever again.
