I think one of the craziest things about life is how we’ve come to abhor violence. And by violence, I don’t mean the type we see in the world today. Not these senseless killings and people just picking up guns and emptying bullets on helpless individuals. Because in this day and age, that seems to be the go-to. People are simply just too cruel to their fellow man, and for no reason at all, they choose to hurt and maim others.
This is not the kind of violence I’m talking about, but the one that actually makes a difference. The one that allows a man to defend his home and his property. The kind of violence where you’d be hoping for your home to be broken into just so you’d have an excuse to beat the crap out of the robber. Society has frowned on such acts because now we’re supposed to let the ‘appropriate authorities’ handle it.
You see, in my opinion, all this has done is to make us all weak. It has created weak men who are scared to actually protect what is theirs. As in, if you aren’t attacking, you should be willing to go all out to defend, right? And that leads to one of the major reasons people abhor violence, and if you even so much as ooze violence, you could be viewed as a troublemaker.
My take: No one should ever be violent. Because it doesn’t solve any problem. However, everyone must show that they are capable of violence should the need ever arise. You know, actually doing something and making people know you’re capable of doing that thing are two different things. One will most likely send you to jail, and the other will keep unsavory characters away from you.
There are some things you’d want to do, and when you think about the person involved, you’d just change your mind because you don’t want the person’s problem! You already know what they’re capable of. Even today, some houses can never be broken into simply because the robbers don’t want the problems that will come from such an act.
In your child’s school, how the staff perceives you will determine how they treat your child. If you’re known to be a no-nonsense parent who will never accept any ill treatment towards your child, they will think twice anytime they want to do such a thing. However, if they know that anything goes with you, then your child will be fair game because they know that, in reality, you can’t do anything! They’ve not seen any reason to.
So, what am I trying to say here? I’m not encouraging violence or anything, but many times, for people not to mess with you and yours, they have to believe that you’re capable of doing terrible things in order to protect them. Just like how robbers will avoid houses where they know there are weapons, or where a police officer or soldier lives. They just don’t want that smoke.
So yeah, while you shouldn’t be violent, don’t hesitate to show that part of you because the safety of your livelihood and your family may rest on that perception.
