Hello everyone, how are you doing on this beautiful weekend? Hope everything is going good for you so far? As you know, I am always encouraging you to use the weekend to relax and gather strength for the coming week. It is good for the body and good for the soul.
Today, I will be talking about a topic that touches most of us, whether in one way or the other. We can be on one side or the other side, what matters is that we are committed to doing the right thing.
Many of us are businessmen or women. In the sense that we always have to sell services of one kind or the other to customers in return for money. Most of the time we sell products and services based on our skills or talent. Usually, we spent good money on learning these skills or growing this talent to the point that we are now able to sell it. And for the fact that we dedicated money and time to our growth, I am always surprised when people come and demand free services.
There is nothing that can be more annoying than someone asking you to do your services for free.
There are cases when services should be done free, like when it is for an NGO or for charity, then it is totally fine. But in the event that the person requires your service in the event that it will make him profit in the future, then you very well have to pay for it.
I am a ghostwriter and content creator; I meet people like this all the time. They promise things like “you will get more audience” in a bid to get freebies from you. Then they will use your products mercilessly until they make all the money they can from it.
Sometimes these people can decide to guilt trip you, trying to take advantage of your friendship. But I believe if they are truly your friends, they will pay you your rate.
It is just like telling someone who is working for a company not to collect his salary at the end of the month after working tirelessly. Imagine the rage the person will use to reply to you. There is no difference between that and what you do when you ask for freebies, a lot of us use this to put food on our table and for our families.
And you, my friends, in case someone comes to ask you for free services try your best not to be taken advantage of. Because it is your business that will suffer for it, and in the long run, you. Although I believe if the person truly needs it and you are in a position to help, you can let your conscience decide. But I stand on the fact that if what you offer will eventually be used to make money, then it very well has to be paid for.
This cuts across all businesses in which the owners have to deal with other people. If we all try our best to consider our fellow men, then we would not be having discussions like these.
And so, if you have a business, be wise with the running of it. It comes first all the time because if it crashes so does your source of livelihood. Never mix business with pleasure or sentiments. And if you are in the habit of asking for free services, please desist from it. It does not help our business grow in any way, instead, it takes from it.
And when we start considering others in our dealings, everyone will be much happier.
